If you are looking for a hotel in Călărași, you can plan your stay around the focus that appeals to you: museum and architectural history, the Danube promenade, or activities on the water and by bike. The places and themes below have different focuses. This helps you first decide whether cultural history, a stay by the Danube, or an active outing is the main consideration for you.

Culture: architectural history and exhibitions

The Muzeul Municipal Călărași is housed in a historic building constructed in 1886–1887 to plans by the architect Ion Socolescu. In September 2014, the building was inaugurated as the museum’s headquarters. These are two distinct dates to bear in mind: the first refers to the construction of the building, the second to its later function as a museum. If you are interested in architecture, the building’s history offers a particular starting point for planning your trip.

The exhibition “Gospodăria țărănească la Dunărea de Jos” at the Muzeul Dunării de Jos showcases local occupations, customs and regional crafts such as weaving, pottery, woodworking and fishing. It therefore focuses on specific activities and traditions. By comparison, the historic museum building is a distinct point of interest at the Muzeul Municipal. When planning, you can distinguish between architectural history and an exhibition about local occupations and customs.

The archaeology and treasury section of the Muzeul Dunării de Jos is open Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 16:00 and Saturday and Sunday from 09:00 to 17:00. Last admission is at 15:30 on weekdays and 16:30 on weekends. Plan your visit with admission times in mind and check the hours before you arrive.

Danube promenade and activities on the water

Parcul Central includes a Danube promenade with benches, sunshades, trees, young ornamental shrubs and floral displays. If you want to spend time outdoors, the promenade offers a different focus from the museums: here, the landscaped area along the Danube takes centre stage.

The Brațul Borcea near Călărași offers opportunities for boat trips and views of the landscapes on both banks of the Danube. A leisure boat route on the Danube starts at a landing stage in Parcul Central. Check whether this route is operating before your trip. For planning an outing, these are different options: boat trips and scenery on the Brațul Borcea, and the stated starting point of the leisure boat route in the park.

Plaja Mare (Samskara) is a natural beach that you can reach from Parcul Central by catamaran, boat or motorboat. As access arrangements may change, check them before making plans. The distinction is useful when choosing an outing: at Plaja Mare, the beach itself is the destination; on the Brațul Borcea, the focus is on boat trips and the landscapes on both banks of the Danube.

Cycling routes as another focus

Călărași is also the starting point for five cycling tourism routes that explore the built and natural heritage of the surrounding area. This offers another way to plan your trip alongside museums and water destinations: you can focus on the area’s heritage by bike. Route conditions and signage may change; check both before setting out.

First choose what kind of outing you want to define your stay, then plan the visits and activities that suit it.
