Predeal has a mountain climate, with cool summers and cold winters. The average July temperature is 15 °C, while the average January temperature is below −5 °C. This puts the monthly averages more than 20 °C apart; snow cover lasts for more than 100 days each year. Winter activities for visitors include skiing and sledding, while summer brings mountain hikes on trails in the Bucegi Mountains. If you are looking for a hotel in Predeal, you can first choose your travel dates based on what you want to focus on: snow sports in winter or hiking in summer.

Winter in Predeal: Slopes, Sledding and a Skiing Tradition

The Clăbucet Sosire ski slope is rated easy, is 800 meters long, and is equipped with artificial snowmaking and lighting. Predeal and Pârâul Rece have a total of eight alpine ski slopes, ranging from easy to difficult. These are two different measures: the length, rating and facilities refer to the individual Clăbucet Sosire slope, while the number eight describes the combined slopes in both areas. Sledding is also among the winter activities available to visitors.

Skiing has taken place in Predeal in various forms for more than 110 years; the first organized ski course was held in 1920. The resort’s connection with winter sports therefore encompasses both specific details about its slopes and a long-standing historical tradition.

Mountain Hikes and Trails at Higher Elevations

Summer activities for visitors include mountain hikes on trails in the Bucegi Mountains. Route 05MN09 starts at Predeal railway station and climbs via Hotel Belvedere/Cioplea; from Predeal, it continues to Pasul Predeluș. The railway station as the starting point, the climb via the named area and Pasul Predeluș as the destination give the route a clear profile. Alongside the general opportunity to hike in the Bucegi Mountains, there is also a specific route to consider.

The cable cars provide access to mountain panoramas and walks at higher elevations; they can also be used for skiing. Unlike the route, which has a named start and destination, they offer a different way to reach higher elevations: you can include panoramic views, walks and skiing in your trip plans.

The Mountain Coaster and Historical Points of Interest

The Predeal Mountain Coaster is another specific attraction. Its track is 822 meters long, and the facility has 22 two-seater sleds, each designed for one adult and one child. The coaster track is similar in length to the 800-meter Clăbucet Sosire ski slope, but the two figures refer to different activities: one is a coaster track, the other an easy-rated ski slope. So when choosing, consider not only the length but also the type of activity and, for the coaster, the seating configuration.

The Mihail Săulescu Monument, on the northern edge of the town, is another historical point of interest. It stands at the site where the first attacks in the Battle of Predeal took place. This historical connection differs from the skiing tradition: it links a specific location to the fighting in the battle, while the history of skiing is set in the context of a long period and the organized course held in 1920. Predeal can therefore be explored through both its seasonal activities and its different historical perspectives.
