Mesteacăn brings together a parish history, an older chapel, an archaeological site and specific connections to walking pilgrimages. If you are considering Mesteacăn as a destination for your stay, you can first think about whether you are most interested in church history, the burial mound or the connection to Vorona Monastery.

Church History in Several Stages

The Mesteacăn parish was established on 12 July 1998, when the foundation stone for the future church was laid. Between 2005 and 2009, the interior of the church was painted using the “a seco” technique; it was consecrated on 23 August 2009. The founding, interior painting and consecration thus mark different stages of the parish’s history, which spanned several years from the laying of the foundation stone to the consecration.

The dedication of the Mesteacăn parish is “Intrarea Domnului în Ierusalim” and is unique in the Botoșani deanery. The dedication is a distinct aspect of local church history. The church is also located on the road toward Vorona, a connection that also plays a role in the context of pilgrimages to Vorona Monastery.

The “Sfinții Împărați Constantin și Elena” chapel has a further religious history: it was built when the village was founded. On 23 August 2009, both the chapel and the social center were consecrated on the grounds of the Mesteacăn parish. These two details distinguish the chapel’s early origins from its later consecration together with the social center.

The Movila Schit Orăşeni de la Mesteacăn Burial Mound

Another point of interest is the “Movila Schit Orăşeni de la Mesteacăn,” a burial mound in Sarafineşti Forest, outside the built-up area. The site lies on the left side of the Fălticeni–Botoşani national road, 900 meters south-southwest of the forestry canton. As an archaeological site in Sarafineşti Forest, the burial mound is distinct from the parish church and chapel.

These distinctions are useful when planning your trip: the parish church is notable for its origins, interior painting and dedication, while the burial mound offers a separate archaeological point of interest. This lets you distinguish the aspects of Mesteacăn that interest you rather than treating them as a single complex.

Mesteacăn and the Walking Pilgrimages to Vorona

During a walking pilgrimage to Vorona Monastery on 7 September 2025, Mesteacăn was one of the final stops. A walking pilgrimage of more than 20 kilometers to the monastery was announced for 7 September 2026. The planned route was to pass through a section of forest and include a stop at the entrance to Mesteacăn. Each detail refers to a specific date: Mesteacăn is listed as a stop for 2025, while a particular route was announced for 2026.

The road connection also helps with orientation: the Sarafineşti–Mesteacăn–Orăşeni Deal–Botoşani road connects Mesteacăn with Botoșani. Residents of Mesteacăn and Sarafineşti use this connection. Together with the parish church’s location on the road toward Vorona, this gives a picture of the area’s different connections: road links, church history, an archaeological site and pilgrimages with specific dates. When choosing your stay, you can weigh the historical points of interest that best match your travel interests.
