Finiș Commune lies at the foot of the Codru-Moma Mountains and on the left bank of the Crișul Negru River. Forests, pastures, and farmland cover most of the commune. The relief is shaped by the Valea Finișului valley and smaller watercourses, with steep slopes, low plateaus, and wooded ridges. This landscape offers a variety of points of interest for a trip combining nature, culture, and history.

Landscapes and Nature in Codru-Moma

The ROSCI 0042 Codru Moma protected area includes beech forests, oak-hornbeam forests, riparian forests, and rocky and steep-slope habitats. Wolves, brown bears, and lynxes have been recorded in the protected area associated with Finiș. These animal records refer to the protected area; the viewpoints specifically designated in Finiș are Sub Piatra Finișului and Vârful Devii. This distinction lets you differentiate between the protected area's nature-related features and the named viewpoints.

The Medieval Fortress of Finiș

South of the village of Finiş is the archaeological site Cetatea medievală de la Finiş. It is also known as Cetatea Belovar and cetatea lui Bella, and dates from the 13th to 14th centuries. A defensive moat, 15 metres wide and 8 metres deep, surrounds it on three sides. The fortress's strategic location helped defend the access route to Oradea. These details answer different questions: the moat describes the fortification, while the location explains its strategic role.

Local Culture and History

The collection at the Muzeul Satului din Finiș includes objects that are more than 100 years old. Finiș is also associated with violin making and the tradition of the Vioara cu goarnă, the so-called trumpet violin; this tradition is also associated with Budureasa and Lazuri de Roșia. The commune's cultural heritage therefore includes both a local museum and a musical and craft tradition shared across the region.

Schitul Huta was built in 1927 and restored in 1973. If you plan a visit, check locally whether it is open to visitors. The dates provide a clear historical reference for the religious building, while current access should be checked separately when planning your trip.

Hiking and Outdoor Activities

The varied natural landscape offers favourable conditions for rural tourism, hiking, and outdoor activities. In the Valea Finișului area, you can go hiking, take horseback rides, use non-motorised vehicles, and go cycling. Themed trails are not marked locally. If you are planning a particular activity, it is therefore worth thinking about navigation in advance rather than relying on marked themed trails.

Activities vary by mode of travel: options range from hiking and cycling to horseback rides and trips in non-motorised vehicles.

Getting There and Finding Your Way

The main road access to Finiș is via county road DJ 764, along the Beiuș–Finiș–Stâncești route. No railway runs through Finiș; the nearest station is in Beiuș and offers limited connections. This distinction matters when choosing how to travel: road access is direct via the route mentioned above, while rail travellers need to take the station in Beiuș into account.

Oradea International Airport lies about 75 km northwest of Finiș and can be reached via DN76 and E79.
