Bascov Commune: River Landscapes, Wooden Churches and Culture
Accommodation in Bascov Commune
Bascov Commune lies in a transition zone between the Getic Piedmont and the Pitești Plateau. The commune includes part of the Argeș floodplain and also extends across the Cotmeana Platform, a relatively flat and stable plateau. This means that river landscape and plateau exist side by side within the commune, without reducing the area to just one type of landscape.
The Argeș runs from north to south along the commune’s left side, through the floodplain. If you are interested in geography, you can consider the river’s location together with the two different types of terrain: the floodplain by the river and the Cotmeana Platform. These features give Bascov Commune a distinctive landscape setting before you plan your trip around its local cultural and architectural landmarks.
Getting There and Finding Your Way
For rail travel, Bascov railway station is a reference point: it serves the Pitești–Curtea de Argeș railway line, which passes through Bascov. By road, the paved DN7-E51 runs through Bascov for about 7.5 kilometres, connecting the commune with Pitești and Râmnicu Vâlcea. This approximate distance describes the route through the locality, not the journey time.
Another road connection is the DJ703. It branches off the DN7-E15 in central Bascov, in the direction of Pitești and Curtea de Argeș. The railway line, the longer road route through the locality and the junction in the centre are distinct reference points for planning your journey. If you are looking for a hotel in Bascov Commune, you can first consider which of these connections is relevant to your stay; make your specific choice based on your own travel plans.
Wooden Churches and Building History
The wooden church “Adormirea Maicii Domnului” stands in Glâmbocu. Dascălul Radu and local villagers built it in 1808. The enclosed porch was added in 1869. The two dates mark different phases of construction and give the church a traceable history to bear in mind when viewing the building.
The described route there follows the E81 and the Bascov–Glâmbocu road. From there, the paved local road DC212B continues for 300 metres to the church. As road conditions can change, check them before setting out.
A second wooden church, “Sfântul Gheorghe” in Bascov, is a historic monument and lies about 300 metres from the commune’s administrative centre. This approximate distance is a point of reference, not a walking-time estimate. The church was founded in the mid-18th century by the Pitești merchant Martin Buliga. Together with the building history in Glâmbocu, it offers a look at two churches and different historical details: the founding of one, and the construction and later porch addition of the other.
Local Culture and Events
The “Doina Bascovului” ensemble, with 49 artists including soloists, instrumentalists and dancers, performs at the Bascov Commune House of Culture. The six-member male vocal group “Rapsozii Bascovului” also performs there. The two groups offer different insights into local culture: a larger ensemble with several artistic roles and a clearly defined vocal group.
At the “Ziua Comunei Bascov” celebration in 2025, the artistic programme featured the orchestra, soloists, rapsozi and dancers of “Doina Bascovului”. This retrospective, tied to a specific date, adds a concrete event to the picture of the cultural groups. On 15 May 2026, the Islaz, Aninoasa picnic and leisure area in the Brăileni district of Bascov was also used for recreation, exercise and artistic activities. The two examples differ in setting: one is a commune celebration with an artistic programme, while the other is a dated use of a leisure and picnic area.
You can therefore plan your trip around different local interests: the setting between the Argeș floodplain and the plateau, the building histories of the wooden churches, or the cultural groups and events described here. The road and rail connections provide practical points of reference for arrival, while the churches and cultural examples offer independent reasons to explore Bascov Commune.
