Intregalde offers several starting points for planning a trip: protected limestone landscapes, botanical areas, caves, and historic wooden churches. Cheile Întregalde is located within the administrative area of Întregalde and is included in the Trascău Natura 2000 Site of Community Importance. When deciding where to go, it is worth considering the sites according to their particular features: rock formations, plants, cave archaeology, and village history each tell a different story about the region.

Limestone Landscapes and Gorges

Cheile Întregalde is a 130-hectare protected area along the upper reaches of the Valea Gălzii. Elevations there range from 500 to 1,139 meters. Limestone cliffs, sharp ridges, and rock towers shape the landscape and provide a habitat for rare plants such as edelweiss. It grows in the gorges at elevations of 500 to 800 meters, the lowest elevation at which the species is found in Romania.

Piatra Cetii presents a different limestone landscape, in the western Trascău Mountains between the valleys of the Cetea and Galda streams. The isolated limestone ridge features jagged ridges, cliffs, rock spires, and rocky gullies. Rare, endemic, and protected plants found there include orchids, irises, and edelweiss.

Botanical Reserve near Tecșești

Poienile cu Narcise de la Tecșești is a two-hectare botanical reserve of national interest in IUCN Category IV. The area protects Narcissus stellaris, locally also called “rușculiță.” It lies at an elevation of about 950 meters near the Piatra Cetii massif and belongs to the village of Tecșești in the commune of Întregalde. The elevation is approximate; it indicates the location of the reserve, not an exact boundary.

Access is via DN1 and DJ104K, followed by a forest road and a footpath to the reserve. As road conditions may change, check local conditions before setting out.

Cave and Archaeological Traces

Peștera Bisericuța is 320 meters long. The cave contains stalagmites, stalactites, columns, and moonmilk formations; archaeological excavations have also uncovered traces of human presence dating to the Neolithic. In the Middle Ages, the cave served as a refuge for shepherds from Ciumerna and was used as a church in times of hardship.

The route starts in Întregalde and follows road 107K toward Necrilești, then a forest road to Sfârcea and an unmarked footpath. Road and trail conditions may change; check them before setting out.

Wooden Churches and Local History

The wooden church “Sf. Ilie” in Întregalde was built in 1774 and is a historic monument. The wooden church “Sf. Arhangheli” in Dealul Geoagiului dates from 1742 and is also a historic monument. Their locations and construction dates make it easy to distinguish the two buildings. Individual thatched-roof sheds also stand on the slopes near Dealul Geoagiului and Iliești.

The collection associated with the ethnographic museum in the village of Întregalde includes old household items from peasant homes, women’s and men’s traditional clothing, as well as documents, publications, and photographs relating to the municipal administration and residents. Traditional bread-making tools include a kneading trough, a flour sieve, and a bread peel. Local history materials associated with the museum include stories, proverbs, local customs, and community events. Local traditions include Colindatul and “Jocul cu Capra.”

The fifth edition of the “Drag de Întregalde” cultural festival took place on August 22 and 23, 2026. The program included music, theater, crafts, and children’s workshops; venues included the Întregalde Civic Center and several other locations in the commune.
