North of Kvinesdal town centre is Rafossen, a 42-metre-high waterfall. A footbridge crosses the waterfall, and there is a salmon observatory at the power station. Prior arrangements are required for guided access to operational facilities. Rafossen thus combines nature and views with an insight into salmon-related matters.

Water, Fjord and Craftsmanship

In the centre of Kvinesdal, KVINAbadet has a 25-metre swimming pool, a therapy pool with a water temperature of 34 degrees, and a paddling pool for the youngest visitors. If you are planning a visit, check the opening hours before you travel.

The Fjordsyn day cabin is located on Dyreknuden and offers views across Fedafjord. The main access route is a hiking trail from the car park at Sande outdoor recreation area. As road and car park conditions can change, it is worth checking them before setting out.

At Bøkkerbua in Feda, you can experience traditional cooperage during the summer season: “bøkring”, as it was practised around 100 years ago. Canoes can also be rented at Bøkkerbua. There is a small swimming spot by the river next to the building; swimming conditions depend on the weather. Craftsmanship, paddling and swimming thus offer different ways to enjoy a visit to Feda.

Exhibitions and History

Vitensenteret Kvinesdal opened in January 2024. It offers an interactive exhibition and an activity workshop, with new content every weekend it is open. The centre is open on the second weekend of each month and during school holidays. Check the dates and programme before you travel. VitenBursdag experiences can also be booked online; check availability in advance.

The Knaben Mining Museum presents the mining and wartime history of Knaben. The museum is housed in the former administrative building of the mining company. Those interested in mining history will find a different historical focus here than at the Lister Emigration Museum, which explores emigration from the Lister region and labour migration to Brooklyn.

The Lister Emigration Museum in Kvinesdal covers two clearly distinct periods: emigration from the Lister region in the 19th century and labour migration to Brooklyn from the 1950s to the 1970s. Access may vary by season; check the available options before your visit.

The Førlands Museum houses a large and varied collection of paintings by Førland. In Feda, the church also tells the story of a lengthy construction period: it was consecrated in 1802 but was not completed until 1820, when the tower was built.

Trails and Planning Your Visit

For outdoor exercise, Kvinesdal has family-friendly cycling routes and training trails. Check trail conditions and signage locally. Another way to experience the region along a route is the first stage of the Barnevandrerstien: it starts in the municipality of Kvinesdal at Årlia and ends at Bautaparken near Snartemo station in Hægebostad. Before setting out, check trail conditions and transport connections.

When looking for a hotel in Kvinesdal, you can use your excursion plans as a guide: the museums and church offer a different focus from the fjord views, waterfall or trails. Visiting times also vary: the cooperage at Bøkkerbua is seasonal, while Vitensenteret follows a monthly weekend schedule and is open during school holidays. Match the attractions you want to visit with your travel dates.
