On Andabeløy, coastal scenery, hiking destinations and cultural heritage meet in Tarmevika. When planning your trip, both the ferry connection and specific trails and places to stay are relevant.

Getting there and staying

Ferry route 297 connects Abelnes and Andabeløy; the crossing takes about seven minutes. Check the current timetable before you travel. A Kystled cabin can be rented in Tarmevika. Whether it is available for your preferred dates depends on the operator, so check the booking status separately.

Hiking trails and viewpoints

Trails from the ferry pier head towards Nonknuten, Katteraua and Brenøyknuten. The easy hike from Nonknuten to Engelsvannet leads from the pier to a viewpoint at an elevation of 152 metres and to Engelsvannet; the lake is 1.3 kilometres from the pier along the hike. An old mining trail leads to Brenøyknuten over dry forest ground, continuing to the viewpoint and Andabeløy’s 206-metre summit. From there, enjoy open views of the sea and Lista. Compare the elevation and destination when choosing a route: the Nonknuten hike combines the viewpoint at 152 metres with Engelsvannet; the Brenøyknuten trail leads to the 206-metre summit and offers views of the sea and Lista. Trail conditions and signage may change. Conditions on the Brenøyknuten trail vary by season; check the current situation locally.

Forest, protected area and natural features

Flekkefjord Landscape Protected Area stretches from Andabeløy, at the entrance to Flekkefjord, along the outer part of Hidra and the coast to Åna-Sira, the border waters between Agder and Rogaland. Andabeløy is home to a large and diverse pine forest, as well as glacial potholes. Djupedalsbolten, a boulder wedged in a ravine, is also found on Andabeløy. The protected area and the individual natural features offer two different scales for planning your exploration: the coastal area extends beyond the island, while the forest, glacial potholes and boulder are features of the island itself.

T ಅರ್ಮvika: Cultural landscape and outdoor stays

In the skerries around Tarmevika, there is old cultivated land with stone settings, remains of old house walls and a cable haul system down to the beach. Tarmevika also has places to spend time in the cultural landscape and numerous camping spots. Local restrictions may apply; check the rules before camping. A stone bridge with a low step makes access easier there. Check local conditions during your visit.
