Discover Rauland
Accommodation in Rauland
Rauland can be explored through a range of interests: mountain trails and viewpoints, ski slopes, art collections and seasonal offerings each provide a different focus for a stay. When planning your trip, consider whether you want to spend most of your time outdoors, see art, or include cultural sites and local products. Trail length, views, elevation and time of year can help you assess the different options.
Hiking Trails, Views and Ski Slopes
Falkeriset is a family-friendly, 3 km hiking trail with panoramic views of the Hardangervidda. The trail combines a specific distance with expansive landscape views. Vidsyn offers a different perspective: the sculpture is also a viewpoint in Vierli’s open mountain landscape, overlooking the mountains around Rauland.
The path to the Vidsyn sculpture starts at Vierli Kafeteria and follows a marked trail to the summit of Vierlinuten at an elevation of 1,100 metres. Trail conditions may vary; check the latest information before setting out. Falkeriset and Vidsyn differ in their stated features: the former has a specified distance of 3 km, while the latter has a summit destination and elevation.
Rauland Skisenter is another local option, with ski slopes for all ability levels. If you are planning winter activities, you can also consider the Rauland Vinterfestival. It takes place every year in calendar week seven; in 2026, it ran from 15 to 21 February. As the specific festival dates vary from year to year, check the dates for the relevant year when planning your trip.
Art and Culture in Rauland
The sculpture collection of artist Dyre Vaa (1903–1980) can be visited in Rauland. It includes sculptures, paintings, prints and drawings. Another collection is dedicated to Knut Skinnarland (1909–1993) and comprises more than 100 works. The two collections offer insight into different artistic practices, while Vidsyn brings together art and views of the mountain landscape.
Telemarkstunet is a farm with replicas of old houses from Rauland. In summer, it also offers activities such as a nature trail and a children’s play area with a sandpit. Alongside art collections, visitors can choose a site of cultural history and outdoor activities. The summer programme may change between seasons; if these activities are important to your trip, check the latest information.
Local Offerings and Flavours
The food venues mentioned also differ: Eldhuset has a bakery, while Gardsjordstoga has a café. The availability of these offerings may vary by season. The LEGA shop and café in Rauland sells brown goat’s cheese, long-aged white goat’s cheese, flatbread and “Pizzabotn”. The product selection may change. When planning your trip, you can therefore consider local products alongside hiking, winter sports and culture, without assuming that seasonal offerings are available year-round.
