Fannrem combines local heritage with trails, sports facilities, and food and craft experiences. If you’re looking for a hotel in Fannrem, these themes can help shape your choice of destination: the town centre is home to a prehistoric standing stone and a stop on the heritage railway; other activities take you to the Orkla or to seasonal offerings. The different highlights can help you decide what matters for your trip.

Heritage in Fannrem

In the centre of Fannrem stands the standing stone “Steinar Fandremmma”, regarded as a prehistoric monument. It is about four metres high, with 2.4 metres above ground. The sculpture “Go`foten” near Stasjonsparken honours coach Nils Arne Eggen. Both places connect the town centre with history and sporting culture.

FannremsgĂĄrden offers an insight into traditional rural culture, with traditional crafts and historic interiors in the farmhouse and barn. This presents different aspects of life on a farm in the past: both craft traditions and the rooms where everyday life took place.

Traditional foods are also part of what FannremsgĂĄrden offers. These include freshly churned butter, sour cream, porridge, homemade flatbread and hand-picked raspberries. The food on offer may vary seasonally.

Trails, railway and sports

Orklaparken is a walking and training trail along the salmon river Orkla. It runs between Orkanger harbour and Fannrem. The trail can be enjoyed either for a walk or a workout; its two endpoints indicate the direction of the route.

The Thamshavnbanen heritage railway has a stop in the centre of Fannrem. If you’re planning a ride, check the current operating days and timetable in advance.

Knyken has an alpine ski facility, five ski jumps, and a stadium for cross-country skiing and biathlon. An operator description dated 19 May 2025 states that in summer the ski jumps are used with plastic matting, along with an asphalt roller-ski track and the biathlon stadium. Check current usage before your trip.

In summer, Fosslykkja BigĂĄrd serves coffee and a light bite by the fire pit or in the old barn. Visitors can also learn more about the work on the farm. The farm shop sells its own products and other local produce.
