Discover Måloy: Fjords, Views and History
Accommodation in Måloy
For a stay in Måloy, you can make water, views and history your different focal points. Local activities range from a guided boat tour through the southern fjords to viewpoints, hiking trails and historical exhibitions. When planning your trip, the options are specific: the boat tour has a stated duration, the viewpoints differ in location and field of view, and the cultural sites each focus on their own themes. This lets you tailor your stay to your interests.
Boat Tour, Views and Hiking
Discover Fjord Magic is a two-hour guided boat tour that departs from the cruise pier in Måløy. It passes under the Måløy Bridge and travels through the southern fjords Vågsfjorden, Fåfjorden and Skatestraumen. The duration gives you a timeframe for this excursion; plan it as a separate activity. Before your trip, check availability and the route again if you want to include the tour as a fixed part of your plans.
Two easily accessible viewpoints look out over the town and harbor. Gottebergshammeren is on the north side of Måløy and offers panoramic views of the town and harbor. Ellingskarshornet is in the south of Måløy and provides views of the town, harbor and Nordfjord. If you specifically want to see Nordfjord, Ellingskarshornet is the right viewpoint; both also offer views of the town and harbor.
A hike to the summit of Veten offers a different perspective. It starts at Skramsvatnet in Måløy; from the summit, the view extends across large parts of Vågsøy and the Stad Sea. This sets the hike apart from the viewpoints, which focus on the town and harbor. As conditions along the trail can vary, check them before setting out.
Two illuminated fitness trails run around Måløy Stadium and Skramsvatnet. For your plans, this is a different option from the hike up Veten: here, two illuminated trails around the named locations are described, while the hike follows a path to the summit with views of Vågsøy and the Stad Sea.
Trading History and Exhibitions
Vågsberget is a historic trading post and inn with roots dating back to the 17th century. During the summer season, visitors who purchase a ticket are offered a guided tour. If the tour is important to your visit, take the seasonal schedule into account and check the details in advance.
The Maloyraidsenter is located in the heart of Måløy. It displays original photographs and several meters of original film about the Måløy Raid of 27 December 1941; there are also exhibitions about Martin Linge. Another cultural reference is Måløy's first mural: Stepan and Gaute painted it in September 2017. It is intended to depict the lucrative fishing industry in Måløy. This brings two distinct themes together: the 1941 raid and the fishing industry featured in the mural.
