Orre brings together coastal scenery, nature information and cultural heritage. Three themes are particularly relevant when planning your trip: Friluftshuset in Orre, Orrestranden and the old church of Orre. If you are looking for a hotel, this selection can help you decide what to focus on during your trip—from a beach stay to nature and cultural history.

Friluftshuset: Nature Information and Culture

Friluftshuset in Orre is the information centre of Jæren friluftsråd for outdoor activities and nature conservation. Its permanent exhibition covers the Jærstrendene protected landscape and opportunities for active recreation in Jæren. Nature conservation and the use of nature for recreation therefore come together in one exhibition theme. Friluftshuset is also one of three centres of Besøkssenter Våtmark Jæren. At the same time, it is a regional cultural centre for art exhibitions, concerts and various events. Nature and cultural topics sit side by side, without the centre being limited to just one role. If you would like to explore both nature conservation and culture during your trip, this combination offers a useful point of reference.

Orrestranden: Beach, Dunes and Protected Area

Visitors swim, surf and walk at Orrestranden. The coastal zone includes the open sea beach, sand dunes and a back-dune landscape with more varied plant life. Orrestranden is part of the Jærstrendene protected landscape. Plants and birds are subject to protection regulations; take these requirements into account when planning your outing. Orrestranden thus offers different ways to experience the coast, in a landscape that also includes dunes and the more plant-rich back dunes.

Old Church of Orre

The old church of Orre dates from the mid-13th century. It is protected as a historic monument, built of stone and wood, and has no church tower. It is located by the Orreelva river and the fv. 507 road. It is the oldest building in Klepp. Access arrangements are important when planning a visit: the church is closed, but can be opened for visits by appointment. Please arrange your visit in advance. Its architecture, age and protected status make it a historic point of reference for planning your trip.

Klepp as a Wider Context

In the wider destination of Klepp, Orrevatnet offers another connection to nature. The lake is part of the Jæren Wetland System, Ramsar Site 309, and an internationally important stopover, wintering and breeding area for wetland birds. Wetlands and birdlife are the focus at Orrevatnet, while the coastal zone at Orrestranden is characterised by the open sea beach, dunes and back dunes. This distinction helps place the nature themes of the wider destination of Klepp in context according to their location and character.

The Revtangen Ornithological Station is another part of the wider context of Klepp. Founded in 1937, it is operated by the Museum Stavanger and is considered the oldest bird station in the Nordic countries. Around 6,000 to 10,000 birds are caught and ringed there each year; the number may vary from year to year. Klepp's history extends beyond the church, too: at Krosshaug, the burial ground was one of the largest and richest in Jæren during the Migration Period; around the year 1000, a stone cross was erected there. Compared with the church dating from the mid-13th century, these dates mark different stages of the region's cultural heritage.
