Vikeså offers several distinct reasons to visit: hikes start in the village, Svelavatnet is centrally located, and FN Park combines a memorial site with views across the lake. There is also a park with various exercise facilities and a marked route to Storafjellet. Other destinations and activities in the Bjerkreim travel area can also be included in your plans.

Hiking from Vikeså

Four hikes starting in the village have been mapped out for Vikeså. A route marked in red leads from Vikeså to the summit of Storafjellet. Check the markings on site before setting off. From the summit, you can look down on Vikeså; the viewpoint is close to the village. The hike therefore combines a start in Vikeså with a view of the village from above.

A total of 520 kilometres of trails are marked in Bjerkreim, 420 kilometres of them in the municipality. A hiking map shows marked trails through the natural and cultural landscape. This wider selection complements the four hikes starting in Vikeså with an overview of trails in Bjerkreim.

Svelavatnet, memorial site and parks

A small swimming beach is located by FN Park, on the centrally situated Svelavatnet, in an attractive park setting. FN Park is a memorial to soldiers from Rogaland who fell while serving with the United Nations. From there, you can enjoy views across the lake; the park is also suitable for a short stop along the road. The bathing spot and memorial site offer different reasons to visit the same place.

Svelaparken offers more ways to spend time outdoors. Its facilities include a 2.5-metre-high climbing rock, exercise equipment, a climbing frame, a balance beam and a stone pyramid. The park is in Vikeså, 100 metres from the Esso service station, also known as Vikeså Veiservice. As local facilities may change, check their current condition before your visit if you are interested.

The shelter at Svelavatnet is fully covered and has a fire pit and a fire pan. You can park at Bjerkreimshallen when visiting.
