For your trip to Nordvernes, Prestegårdsfjøset and the path to Jo i Revva offer tangible connections to local history. The Under Værnestinden hike crosses rocky terrain and then follows a sandy beach.

Cultural Heritage and Local History

On Nordværnes stands the former parsonage barn, Prestegårdsfjøset. It was built around 1770, has a roof made of Alta slate, and was moved in its entirety from Rødøy Prestegård parsonage to Nordværnes in the 1970s. Its construction period and roofing material describe the building; its later relocation adds a change of place to its history. Iron Age graves have also been recorded near Nord-Værnes.

Trails and Varied Landscapes

The path to Jo i Revva starts at the workshop in Kvalvika. From there, follow the road towards Nordværnes. At Rønvika, turn off and take the marked trail above the houses to the destination. An information sign at a rock crevice tells the story of Jo i Revva and includes a QR code. The route thus links clear landmarks with a local history topic.

The Under Værnestinden hike crosses rocky terrain and then follows a sandy beach to the destination. There is a fire pit there, as well as opportunities to play in the sand and in the tidal zone; relaxing by a fire, fishing and sea views are also among the options. During the hike, there is a good chance of seeing harbour porpoises surface to breathe at the water’s surface. The route is well suited to families. There is room for about two cars at the starting point. Take this approximate capacity into account when planning your journey.

Nearby Nordværnes, the Krumvatnet route passes through low-growing deciduous woodland and between moss-covered rocks. After most of the ascent, the terrain becomes boggy and wet before the descent to the lake begins; there, it becomes drier again. The difference is clear if you are choosing based on scenery: at Under Værnestinden, rocky terrain and a sandy beach lead to the destination, while at Krumvatnet, woodland and mossy rocks give way to wet, boggy sections.
