Inndyr lies on a peninsula between Sørfjorden to the west and Mordalsfjorden to the east. In the center of the peninsula, Inndyrfjellet forms a mountain ridge; at Sandnestinden, it reaches approximately 500 meters above sea level. The fjords frame the area on two sides, while the ridge defines the middle of the peninsula. Inndyr’s coastal location and central elevation can thus be understood as two distinct landmarks that together shape the character of the place.

Kirkestien between shore and forest

Kirkestien leads from Inndyr to Gildeskål Kirkested and is considered an easy coastal trail. The route follows the shoreline, passes through the forest, and crosses a lush cultural landscape. This sequence connects three distinct landscape areas along one trail; Kirkestien is therefore defined by more than just its coastal route. The parking area for Kirkestien is in Inndyrsvågen. As trail conditions can change with the seasons, it is advisable to check them before setting out.

Inndyrsvågen: Shore and harbor

Inndyrsvågen is a valuable cultural landscape featuring a hilly shoreline, boathouses, and residential buildings dating from the late 19th century. The terrain, buildings, and older residential development together shape the impression of the waterfront here. The harbor has a quay for express boats and a guest pier. In summer, tourists and boaters use the harbor. The cultural landscape along the waterfront and the harbor’s seasonal use can thus be seen as distinct aspects of Inndyrsvågen.

Aquaculture at the Salmon Center Gildeskål

The Salmon Center Gildeskål offers a different focus. In the indoor aquarium, salmon swim around visitors in a 360-degree view. A sensory pool for children offers a direct encounter with marine organisms. The center also provides knowledge about aquaculture based on facts and research. The experiences differ in nature: the aquarium allows visitors to observe the salmon, the pool offers direct encounters with marine organisms, and the educational content provides an evidence-based look at aquaculture. The center also offers a boat trip to one of its facilities, where visitors can see salmon in net pens. Advance booking is required for the trip.

Cultural attractions in the wider destination of Gildeskål

In the wider destination of Gildeskål, Gildeskål kirkested offers its own cultural highlight. The site includes a medieval church with one of Norway’s best-preserved Baroque interiors. From the church hill, visitors can look out over the islands and the shipping route. The Prestegårdsfjøset also houses an Elias Blix exhibition by the Nordland Museum. These cultural themes differ from those of Inndyrsvågen: there, the cultural landscape is shaped by the shoreline, boathouses, and residential buildings dating from the late 19th century; at the kirkested, the focus is on the church and its Baroque interior. Kirkestien leads from Inndyr to this church site.
