Guvåghytta is an unstaffed DNT cabin on the Eidsfjord on Langøya in Vesterålen. It is located in Guvåg, in the municipality of Bø in Nordland county. Guvåg can be explored through several themes: the marked access route to the cabin, the cultural history of Oksneset and Oksnesan, and trails and outdoor activities.

Access to Guvåghytta

The quickest route to Guvåghytta starts at a car park in Guvåg and follows a trail marked with the T symbol. The walk is about 700 metres long and takes approximately ten minutes. Check the latest access information on UT before setting out.

This route information refers to the access from the car park to the cabin. For orientation on site, Guvåghytta has an information brochure and an information board. Both present the cultural and natural history of Oksneset in chronological order.

Oksneset and Oksnesan: local cultural history

Oksneset and Oksnesan are two forms of the same place name; Oksnesan is the dialect form. Until well into the 20th century, Oksnesan was a husmannsplass, a smallholding worked by a tenant farmer. The holding was last worked by Mathias Olsen and Tea Kristensdatter. Its classification as a husmannsplass gives local history a concrete connection to land use and farming.

Oksnesan is also a state-protected outdoor recreation area. The area is associated with the stretch between the quay in Guvåg and Guvåghytta. In and around Oksnesan, from the quay to the cabin, rowing, paddling and fishing are among the activities associated with the cabin.

Trails and outdoor activities

The Mathiasnaustet boathouse at Guvåghytta has rowing boats and life jackets in various sizes. Marked trails to Breitinden, a 598-metre-high summit, also lead from Guvåg or Haugnes. Trail conditions can vary depending on the season; check conditions before setting out.

There are different options to choose from: the information at the cabin introduces the history of Oksneset and Oksnesan, while the marked trails to Breitinden lead to a summit. Rowing, paddling and fishing are among the activities around the cabin. You can take into account which of these themes will shape your stay when planning your trip.
