Discover Ulsteinvik: leisure, harbor and culture
Accommodation in Ulsteinvik
Ulsteinvik offers sports and leisure activities, a swimming pool, harbor facilities, and historic and culinary highlights. The Ulstein destination also has its own landscape and cultural themes. If you are looking for a hotel in Ulsteinvik, these differences can help you decide what to focus on during your stay: activities in town, harbor-related attractions, or a broader look at Ulstein.
Sports, games and swimming
Saunesparken brings together a range of activities: there are facilities for beach volleyball, basketball and football, as well as a playground, mini golf and an artificial-turf football pitch. A riverside promenade runs along the river. You can find a variety of things to do here in one place, from ball games to a walk by the water. As municipal facilities can change, check their current status before your visit if needed.
Ulsteinvik Skatepark is designed for skateboards, roller skates, scooters and BMX bikes. Hofset Bike Park has a different focus: it includes a paved, hilly pump track, a skills area with jumps and balance features, and three forest flow trails of varying difficulty. When planning, you can distinguish between the skatepark and bike park based on the sports equipment and facilities each offers.
Ulsteinbadet is located in the center of Ulsteinvik. It has a 25-meter pool, diving facilities at heights of 1, 3 and 5 meters, and two water slides. The pool is designed to be accessible; its facilities also include a therapy pool with a wheelchair ramp. Details about the facilities may change.
Harbor, history and practical information
The guest harbor at Quality Hotel Ulstein has a fixed wooden-fronted quay for larger boats and 150 meters of floating pontoons in the center of Ulsteinvik. A guest harbor for small boats has space for ten visiting boats at a floating pontoon, with access to electricity and water. If a berth or supplies are important to your plans, check availability in advance; capacity and services may change.
Ulstein Church is a rare octagonal wooden church, built in 1849. It was later moved to Ulsteinvik and extended; it was consecrated there in 1878. Public toilets are available at the Ulsteinvik bus station, in the library, at BlĂĄhuset and at Amfi Ulsteinvik. These locations can be useful for getting your bearings in town.
For bread and baked goods, Mjøl & Meir is an artisan bakery and coffee bar in the center of Ulsteinvik. Maluns restaurant serves Swiss- and Norwegian-inspired dishes in an old boathouse next to the small-boat harbor. These offer different culinary stops: a bakery and coffee bar, and a restaurant with its own cuisine in a distinctive harbor setting.
Ulstein: landscape, nature and culture
Ulstein’s landscape is shaped by a coastal strandflat, with lowland terraces and long, flat beaches. Steep mountain slopes rise to plateaus at elevations of 300 to 500 meters. The natural environment offers a range of highlights too: Ulstein’s bird list includes 226 species, including 123 confirmed breeding species. Eclogite is exposed over large areas, including on Borgarøya and Dimna.
Borgarøya is a historic trading post in the archipelago near Ulsteinvik. Roppesanden offers a place to swim at a white beach beside turquoise water. On an exposed stretch of coastline at Flø, there are white sandy beaches and spectacular sunsets. These places represent different coastal and island experiences in the Ulstein destination.
Water activities also vary by location: in Ulstein, you can kayak among green fjords with the Sunnmøre Alps as a backdrop, in the archipelago off central Ulsteinvik, and on the open sea at Flø. Fishing is possible in both saltwater and freshwater. When planning, you can choose between different landscapes and activities without equating them with the options available directly in Ulsteinvik.
At Flø, the Studio Hugo Opdal art gallery has exhibited works by artists from Norway and abroad. Go With the Flø brings together art, music and fashion in a festival format; if you want to plan your trip around it, check the event dates in advance. At Andreasgarden Gjestetun, visitors can experience local food and culture on a farm.
