Straumgjerde: Straumen, Fetvatnet and Brennevinsgrova
Accommodation in Straumgjerde
Straumgjerde brings together river and lake, outdoor activities and a farm operation with its own production. Straumen is a short salmon river; Straumgjerdeparken and Brennevinsgrova complement the connection to the water with outdoor activities and farm products, respectively. This makes it possible to explore the destination from a range of very different perspectives.
Straumen and Fetvatnet
Straumen flows from Fetvatnet into the Sykkylvsfjord and is part of the Fetvassdraget watercourse. The river is only a few hundred metres long and is considered a good salmon river. The Straumen viewpoint is by the river, on the way towards Fetvatnet, and has seating.
At Fetvatnet, you can fish for salmon and trout from a boat or from the shore. Fly fishing is reserved for the lower fishing section of Straumen. Before fishing in the lake, check the seasonal dates, permits and quotas; you should also check the rules for the lower section of Straumen again before your trip.
There are simple shelters along the hiking trails at Fetvatnet. Slettegjerde Stadium has a disc golf practice course with six baskets. At the disc golf location at Slettegjerde, you can also park and walk around Fetvatnet.
The park and other outdoor activities
Straumgjerdeparken is located by the bridge and the salmon river Straumen. A play park for children and adults, it has a playground, outdoor fitness equipment, a sand volleyball court and a barbecue. The park is listed as a year-round destination.
The availability of the outdoor fitness equipment may change; the sand volleyball court may be subject to seasonal or maintenance-related changes. Before your visit, check the condition of the facilities and confirm on site whether the barbecue can be used.
There are barbecue shelters in Trollskogen near Slettegjerde. Before using them, check local fire restrictions and safety conditions. Straumen is also among the places mentioned as an option for an overnight hammock stay by the water; conditions and usage rights may vary locally.
Brennevinsgrova and its own products
Brennevinsgrova is a micro-distillery in Straumgjerde that makes gin, aquavit and whisky. The operation also produces the farm salami mør, using a recipe handed down through four generations. Brennevinsgrova aims to use as many locally sourced ingredients as possible. These include rowan berries, birch leaves, nettles, juniper berries, blueberries, seaweed, chervil, rhubarb and bog myrtle.
Tours and tastings of its own products are also available. Arrange your visit before you arrive so you can plan your stay accordingly.
