Hals is a village on the island of Tustna in the municipality of Aure. It is home to Tustna Ladestasjon, a hammock hotel where guests can spend the night outdoors. This type of accommodation complements the local themes of hiking, food and drink, and culture. If you are looking for hotels in Hals, you can take these different interests into account when planning your trip: the trail to Skarven, activities at Tustna Ladestasjon, or culture in Hals and the wider Aure area.

Hiking and Scenery on Tustna

A marked trail from Hals and Myrvang leads to Skarven, which is 896 metres high. The marked route and summit elevation make Skarven a specific hiking destination on Tustna; trail conditions can vary by season. Check conditions before setting out. Another way to experience the landscape is from the Gullsteinvollen hut on Tustna, at the end of Gullsteinsdalen. From there, the view extends westward over the sea and towards Smøla; the alpine peaks of Skarven, Jørgenvågsalen, also known as Jurtind, and Knubben surround the valley. The hut’s conditions and access may change, so check them before visiting.

Cider, Café and Activities

Tustna Ladestasjon offers a cider tasting accompanied by stories about apple harvesting and cider making. The tasting includes three glasses of different ciders or juices, along with suitable local snacks. The tasting pairs drinks with stories, while refreshments and food are available on open café days.

From May to November, Tustna Ladestasjon is available for celebrations, gatherings and events for up to 36 people. It is also available for meetings, seminars, courses and conferences from May to November; seasonal availability may change. If you are planning a date, check availability for your preferred period. After the meal, Tustna Ladestasjon organises activities with small treats, such as music bingo, quizzes or outdoor games. Guests at the hammock hotel can also try Norwegian craft traditions.

Culture in Hals

The Hals School Museum houses one of at least two psalmodikons preserved in the area. At the beginning of the 20th century, the fiddle was the most widespread instrument in Sålåsundet, as elsewhere in Norway; there were also psalmodikon players there. This local historical connection adds a music history theme to today’s activities centred on cider, crafts and hiking.

Culture and Long-Distance Hiking in the Wider Aure Destination

The Kråksundet Maritime Museum in Aure presents the fishing history and coastal culture of Nordmøre in an authentic boathouse setting. Its collections include equipment and objects documenting coastal culture and the Geitbåten boat. During the summer season, the museum grounds host museum days, gatherings of veteran boats and other events. Check the current event dates before making plans.

The marked Fjordruta also runs through the wider Aure destination from east to west. It is 260 kilometres long in total and includes five DNT cabins. Its first section starts at Kvernberget Airport in Kristiansund and runs via Tustna, Stabblandet, Ertvågsøya and the mainland near Aure, before continuing to Trøndelag. Check ferry connections and trail conditions before planning.
