Discover Stanghelle on the Veafjorden
Accommodation in Stanghelle
Stanghelle lies at the entrance to the Veafjorden. The village is situated by the fjord and surrounded by high mountains such as Stanghellefjellet and Storafjellet. When planning your trip, the destinations mainly differ in terms of access and activities: a marked trail leads to the Fjordsyn day cabin, Stanghelle has hikes of varying lengths, and Agnavika combines a bathing spot with the trailhead for Fjordsyn.
Getting here and trailheads
Stanghelle has its own train station. As a rough guide, the journey from Stanghelle to Bergen takes about 35–40 minutes, and the journey to Voss around 40 minutes. Check the current connections before travelling; these are approximate journey times.
Fjordsyn: trail and access
The Fjordsyn day cabin is located on Tettaneset in the western part of Stanghelle. The trail starts at Agnavika: first, it follows the road for about 80 metres, then a gently undulating, well-marked path leads through the forest and over rocks. There are a few damp patches along the way after heavy rain. Fjordsyn is not accessible by pushchair or wheelchair.
There is parking for Fjordsyn at Agnavika, above the bridge from the E16. Further parking is available after the E16 turn-off or at the ball field in western Stanghelle. Check parking options before your visit, as parking regulations may change.
Fjordsyn can also be reached by water. Kayaks can be rented at the paddle bridge on Ardalsvegen in Stanghelle; Stanghelle Idrettslag also offers kayak rentals. Some of the rental kayaks are kept on a rack at the landing place in Litlavika, below Ardalsvegen. Check the rental arrangements before your trip.
Hiking and activities in Stanghelle
Hikes in Stanghelle range from short family outings to longer mountain walks. From Stanghelle, a hike to Storafjellet takes about 1.5 hours. An easier route follows the old road past Helle and along DalevĂĄgen to Dale. The comparison is simple: Storafjellet is the named mountain destination for the hike, with an approximate duration; the easier option goes past Helle and along DalevĂĄgen to Dale.
Stanghelle aktivitetspark is located in eastern Stanghelle. It has a BMX track, a skatepark, play equipment and a sand volleyball court, as well as a ball court and a play area.
Agnavika and local history
Agnavika is close to the centre of Stanghelle and has a sandy beach and a lawn. There are barbecue facilities and play equipment. Since the trail to Fjordsyn also starts here, Agnavika serves both as a bathing spot and as a reference point for the hike to the day cabin.
The opening of the Vossebana is part of the village’s history: when it opened in 1883, Stanghelle gained a railway station, a post office and a telegraph station.
