Lundegrend: farm shop and leisure

Several themes come together in Lundegrend to help you plan your trip: products from Myrdal Gård, leisure activities in Apalvika, and opportunities for hiking and cycling. Depending on whether you would rather plan a tour, spend time by the water or visit the farm shop, different activities can take centre stage.

Farm shop and products from Myrdal Gård

The Myrdal Gård farm shop in Lundegrend sells its own products, including cheese, yoghurt, ice cream, cheesecake, eggs, meat and fresh baked goods. Which products are available at any given time may vary. The cheese is made from goat's and cow's milk and has won awards. Alongside the range of food, the products from the dairy are also a highlight.

On Tysnes, Myrdal Gård welcomes visitors to its farm shop and restaurant in spring and summer. Check the opening dates before your trip. Tours of the dairy or farm can be arranged; check their booking and seasonal availability in advance as well.

Leisure in Apalvika and Lunde

The Apalvika outdoor recreation area in Lundegrend has a small beach. There is a car park, a toilet and a sand volleyball court nearby. The court is free to use and is one of three sand volleyball courts on Tysnes. Lake Myrdalsvatnet is suitable for swimming and is a five-minute walk from Myrdal Gård.

There is a pump track at Bunnpris in Lunde, and the pump track area also includes a small sports field. The leisure options are therefore distinct: Apalvika offers a beach and sand volleyball, while Bunnpris has a pump track and sports area.

Hiking, cycling and directions

The hike to Tysnessåta starts at Myrdal Gård and takes about 1.5 hours from the farm. The hike offers views of Bjørnafjord, the North Sea and the Folgefonna Glacier. Trail conditions may vary, so take this into account when planning.

A cycling loop on Tysnes also passes through Lundegrend: it runs from Våge via Uggdal and Onarheim and back to Våge. Much of the route follows the Hardangerfjord; along the way, there are views of the Kvinnherad Mountains and the Folgefonna Glacier. While the hike to Tysnessåta is described with an approximate duration, the cycling loop connects several places and fjord landscapes. When cycling, take current road and traffic conditions into account.

To reach Myrdal Gård, drive about 11 kilometres from Våge to the turn-off for the farm. Then follow the signs for about 2 kilometres uphill. Road conditions can change; check them before setting off.

Tysnes: landscape and culture

Tysnes is an island group with a total area of 255 square kilometres. The landscape differs between west and east: in the west, there are rocky shores and heathland facing the open sea. In the east, along the Hardangerfjord, the landscape gives way to high mountains and extensive forest areas. This contrast gives an impression of the different landscapes on Tysnes without attributing them to Lundegrend.

Historical sites on Tysnes include Årbakkavollen, an archaeological site from the Early Iron Age with remains of 20 burial mounds and at least six standing stones. Tysnes skulemuseum is housed in a school building dating from 1896; original school desks and furnishings are on display there. Årbakka is also home to a traditional West Norwegian rural shop dating from 1898. Its shop interior has been preserved as it looked in the 1930s.
