Ingeberg: Hiking, Cycling and History
Accommodation in Ingeberg
Ingeberg can be explored through its hiking trails, a cycling loop and Veståsløypa. When planning your trip, the route characteristics and seasonal conditions are particularly important: a loop of around 17 km, a 4 km hike and a ski trail that is not groomed regularly in winter offer different points of reference. The area's history is also tied to specific places and routes.
Hiking and cycling routes around Ingeberg
Route 5 – Gålåsrunden is an easy loop of around 17 km on paved and gravel roads in the lower part of Vang and Furnes. It starts and ends at Vienkrysset. The cycling route follows the bike path along Gåsbuvegen to Ingeberg, turns there and continues through Imerslundmarka to Gålås, returning via Trehørningen. The approximate distance and its description as an easy route help you assess the tour. Road and trail conditions can change, so check the current route and conditions before setting out.
Skolestien Ingeberg–Lunden passes fields and attractive farmsteads and offers views across Vangsbygda to Skreifjellet. The Skolestien trail starting from Ingeberg also passes the old farms of Kjøs and Oppsal. Based on their location and finds, they have been dated to the Early Iron Age, 400 BC to 600 AD. The Vang kjøre- og ridestier trail network, which partly follows Skolestien, is open to everyone on foot. Check current trail conditions before setting out.
Starting points, parking and winter conditions
For Hamar turpost 2026, a 4 km hike to Ingebergbakken, checkpoint 4, is listed. It starts at Kiwi Ingeberg, Hagavegen 2. Trail conditions and program details may change. Outside school hours, you can park at Ingeberg skole, Lerkevegen 10 in Ingeberg. So, if you are planning a hike, the starting points differ depending on the activity you choose: the short hike to checkpoint 4 starts at Kiwi Ingeberg, while parking at the school is possible for Skolestien, subject to the time restriction stated above.
Veståsløypa runs from Hamar via Ingeberg to Gåsbu. In winter, it is groomed only sporadically and depending on snow conditions. So don't plan a cross-country ski outing on the assumption that the trail will be groomed throughout; base your decision on local conditions. The pedestrian and cycle bridge connects the new residential area of Ingeberglia with the rest of Ingeberg. Hamar Municipality announced its completion on 18 May 2023.
Local history and Hamar as a wider travel destination
From 1875, Ingebergbakken was the permanent school for the former Tomter school district. The name also appears in the hike mentioned above to Ingebergbakken, checkpoint 4. This links a historical reference with a more recent hiking plan as two distinct aspects of the place.
