On a trip to Hallingby, you can focus on cross-country skiing, a hike lasting several hours, or cultural history. Route information varies in length, course and destination; when planning for the winter trails, snow conditions are a factor. You can weigh up these interests when choosing a hotel and decide what you would like to focus on during your stay.

Hiking between Møltemyra and the Damtjern lakes

The Hallingby–Møltemyra–Søndre Damtjern hike is listed as 8 km and 4 hours 15 minutes. You can take the distance and duration into account together when planning your day. On a group hike on 20 May 2025, the route started at Møltemyra Stadium. From there, it first followed a good path and then a road to Nordre Damtjern and on to Søndre Damtjern. The group stopped for a break at Søndre Damtjern on this trip.

Cross-country skiing and activity park

At Møltemyra, behind the roadside rest area in Hallingby, there is a 3.7 km floodlit cross-country ski trail. Suitable snow conditions are essential for its local grooming. A machine-groomed trail also runs from Møltemyra to Somdalen and back, covering 14 km; its winter grooming also depends on snow conditions. The two trails differ in the features explicitly stated: the 3.7 km trail is floodlit, while the 14 km trail runs to Somdalen and back and is machine-groomed.

A day trail runs downhill from Hallingby School to Pålerudbyen. A snowmobile trail leads uphill to the Vælsvannene lakes; its seasonal use depends on snow and local grooming. This gives you more named destinations to choose from, as well as a distinct type of trail in addition to cross-country ski trails.

The Ådal IL facility in Hallingby is designed as an activity park. Unlike the trails, which depend on suitable snow conditions, the facility can be used year-round. It includes a freeride run and a ski jump with jumps from 1 to 8 metres. The facility’s cross-country skiing cross-country course is also used for cycling. The activity park therefore combines winter sports features with a cross-country course used for cycling.

Woodland and cultural history

Kirkemyra, a larger woodland area with established paths and small facilities, lies west of Hallingby. The area is attractive for outdoor recreation and other activities. It adds a distinct natural setting near the destination to the specific ski trails and the Ă…dal IL facility.

Hval Church in Hallingby was consecrated on 1 October 1862. Its nave has an octagonal floor plan. The consecration date and floor plan offer two different starting points for exploring cultural history: the church’s history and a specific feature of its architecture.

In the wider destination of Ringerike

The wider destination of Ringerike also offers other cultural history. Ringerikes Museum is housed in the old vicarage at Norderhov, next to Norderhov Church, and displays several hundred items from Jørgen Moe’s household. Kjerrat Museum is a cultural and natural history museum for Åsa in Ringerike. It includes a chainsaw museum and a 13-metre-long terrain model featuring the historic Kjerrat installations, old farms and summer mountain pastures.
