Brezna: landscape and trails
In the Brezna area between Nikšić and Plužine, Etno Selo Montenegro offers a restaurant serving national cuisine, an outdoor pool, a sauna and museums. The offerings also include hiking trails, cycling and other adventure activities. Individual facilities and activities may change over time; if you have specific plans, check what is available when you travel.
The Brezna Valley is a peaceful rural landscape rich in birch trees, with a lower and an upper section. Marked trails head towards the mountains and viewpoints above the Komarnica Canyon. There are also leisurely walks and herb walks. This gives you a choice between marked hikes and quieter explorations on foot when planning your day. Check trail signs and conditions locally before setting out.
Farms also contribute to Brezna’s rural character: farms sell products such as cheese, pršut and mushrooms. Some farms also feature paintings and other local items. What you find depends on the season and the individual household, so these examples are not a fixed selection available everywhere.
In the wider destination of Plužine
Piva Nature Park occupies a significant part of the Opština Plužine, covering 39 percent of its area. The park has more than 15 marked hiking and/or cycling routes with information boards. Two platforms are used for observing wildlife, and another for birdwatching. The Plužine–Stabna–Veliki Vito mountain trail is designated as a marked mountain route. The trails and viewpoints offer different ways to spend time outdoors; conditions may change, so check locally before you go.
For a different kind of activity, the Piva climbing area in the municipality of Plužine has two sectors with 61 routes, including two multi-pitch routes. At Lake Piva, visitor activities focus on watersports on calm water, kayaking and boat trips. Kayaking suits travelers who prefer calm paddling. The zipline at Lake Piva in Plužine has a cable length of 1,400 meters. The nature experiences in the wider destination therefore vary considerably by activity: on foot or on rock, on the water or on the zipline.
Plužine also offers a cultural and historical perspective on the region. Piva Monastery was moved to Sinjac because of the flooding of the Piva River and the construction of a hydroelectric power plant; the original frescoes were transferred along with it. Its treasury is among the richest in Montenegro. It includes valuable collections of old manuscript books and books printed earlier in the Balkans, including the only surviving Psalter from the Obod printing house.
