Reževići Monastery: Churches and Architectural History

In the wider Reževići area, the monastery stands on a broad plateau facing the sea, at the foot of Mount Voštanica. It is next to the main road between Sveti Stefan and Petrovac. The complex includes two churches, the remains of a third church and a monastic dormitory.

The Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God dates from the 13th century and is traditionally attributed to Stefan Prvovenčani. Fresco painting has been preserved in the remains of a third church. It points to a building from the 14th century, founded by Emperor Dušan and dedicated to Saint Stephen.

The second church, with its distinctive bell tower, dates from the early 19th century. The iconostasis of the Church of the Holy Trinity was created by the painter Marko Gregović from Petrovac in the late 19th century. Taken together, these details show the monastery complex’s different periods of construction and art.

Spomen dom and the Landscape

The Spomen dom Reževići stands directly beside the monastery. It was established in 1996 in a former school building; the school was founded in 1856. The Spomen dom is associated with exhibitions on Paštrovići and coastal heritage, as well as publications and scientific and artistic projects. These themes complement the church buildings with a perspective on regional and coastal culture.

The national landscape typology also lists Rijeka Reževići–Katun Reževići as a landscape character area.

Perazića Do and the Trails

The small sandy and pebbly beach of Perazića Do lies in the bay below the monastery. It can be reached via a turnoff from the Budva–Petrovac expressway. The beach is approximately 40 metres long and covers an area of 540 square metres. This clearly describes both its location in the bay and its modest size.

A walking route description for Petrovac–Perazića Do, published in November 2024, mentions a well-lit section approximately 500 metres long, consisting of three separate tunnels. Lighting and access may change; check both before your trip. A hiking trail leads from Petrovac via Perazića Do and continues uphill to the monastery, with an elevation gain of 150 metres. This route description is also from November 2024; trail conditions may change. Check the current situation before your trip.
