Žibartoniai can be explored through three distinct themes: the walking route from Vadaktai to Paberžė, the village’s chapel history, and the annual theater comedy festival “O buvo taip”. When planning a stay, it is helpful to consider these highlights separately. The route can be assessed by its total distance and walking time; the chapel’s history spans several building phases, while the festival offers a recurring occasion. This can help you decide whether to plan your trip around a walking stage, cultural history, or an event date.

Walking through Žibartoniai

The walking route from Vadaktai to Paberžė passes through Žibartoniai and is 20.1 kilometers long in total; the stated walking time is five hours. Both figures refer to the entire route. When planning, it is therefore important to distinguish the full stage from the section through the village: the five hours describe the route as a whole, not just the section in Žibartoniai. Žibartonių kapinės cemetery is considered a peaceful resting place along the stage. From there, it is another four kilometers to Paberžė. This makes the cemetery a midway point on a longer route, while the distance to the destination describes the final part of the route. If you choose the walking route as your main focus, the total distance, stated walking time, and this stage reference provide three different points of orientation.

Landscape along the route

The landscape details add a sense of the route’s geography to these figures. Almost five kilometers of the walking route follow the Liaudė stream and cultivated fields. Near Žibartoniai, the stream widens into Žibartonių tvenkinys. The stream section and the pond are therefore two reference points along the same route: the first describes a longer stretch, while the second marks the transition at the village. The stream section is part of the 20.1-kilometer route and is not an additional stretch. If you also choose a walk based on its scenery, you can take the water, fields, and transition to the pond into account alongside the walking time and total distance.

Chapel: two building phases, one consecration

The chapel’s history in Žibartoniai spans several building phases. In 1811, landowner Vincentas Vyšniauskas had a wooden chapel built. After it fell into disrepair, a new brick chapel was built in 1937 with funds from worker Vincentas Banaitis, who had returned from America, and residents of the surrounding area. On May 30, 1938, it was consecrated in the village under the patronage of Saint Vincent de Paul. The chronology clearly distinguishes construction from consecration: 1937 marks the new building, and 1938 its consecration. The building material also changed from wood to brick. For a cultural and historical perspective, both the architectural change and the involvement of individuals and local residents are relevant.

The annual theater comedy festival

The “O buvo taip” theater comedy festival is held annually in the cultural center section of Žibartoniai. It is a recurring cultural event, and its specific date is important when planning a trip. Unlike the walking route, which is described by a fixed total distance and walking time, the best time to visit for the festival depends on its event date.
