The Ventspils AO–Akmeņdziras–Ance bus route operates year-round; check the timetable before planning your journey around it. The BŪDNIEKI country holiday home is located in Akmeņdziras. It is a holiday home, not a hotel. Nearby destinations offer a range of experiences: birdwatching, nature trails, coastal scenery and historical heritage.

Birdwatching and Nature at Lake Būšnieku

At nearby Lake Būšnieku, a 187 m pedestrian boardwalk leads to a birdwatching platform; the nature trail forms an 8 km route around the lake. The two distances represent different scales for planning: the boardwalk leads directly to the platform, while the longer distance is for the loop around the lake. This gives you a choice between a single observation point and a longer circular route as different nature activities. The Būšnieku ezera krasts nature reserve is also nearby. It is part of the Natura 2000 network and covers 49 ha. While the boardwalk and trail describe specific nature activities, the protected status and area define the reserve’s distinct character.

Coastal Scenery and Jūrtaka

Nearby Staldzene Stāvkrasts is a typical 4–8 m-high erosional coast. Along about 400 m, sediments from different stages in the development of the Baltic Sea can be seen. The height describes the coastal landform, while the approximate length indicates the stretch with this sequence of sediments. The 11th stage of the Jūrtaka coastal hiking route also runs nearby, from Staldzene via Liepene and Jaunupe to Oviši. The 12th stage passes through the Oviši Nature Reserve, whose coastal landscape is characterised by wide sandy beaches and dunes. The stages can be distinguished by their different highlights: the 11th lists a sequence of places, while the 12th highlights the coastal landscape of the reserve. The term “erosional coast” describes a coastal landform created by erosion; it provides a geological classification of the Staldzene section.

Historical Sites and Lighthouse History

There are also historical destinations nearby. Individual fishermen’s farmsteads dating from the 19th century have been preserved in Staldzene. The Miķeļtornis (Pize) Evangelical Lutheran Church was built in 1883 from red bricks on the site of an older wooden Lutheran building. Comparing the earlier wooden building with the brick church makes the change at the same site tangible. The church can only be visited before and after services on the major holidays of the church year; confirm visiting arrangements in advance. Ovišu bāka houses an exhibition on the history of lighthouses. The surviving historic navigation facility was completed in 1814. The lighthouse-history exhibition and the navigation facility completed in 1814 bring together a broad topic and a single historic structure.
