Zvejniekciems is a coastal town with ties to fishing, the harbor, and architecture. The rocky beach lies between the Port of Skulte and Saulkrasti Beach. When choosing a destination, you can therefore weigh two interests: the coastal landscape and the history of a fishing settlement.

Fishing Village and Local History

Zvejniekciems emerged in the 19th century as a small fishing village on the coast of Skulte. The town’s name also points to this history: it derives from fishing, the residents’ main occupation. The local past can therefore be traced not only through individual buildings, but also through the name and the former basis of livelihood.

Architecture and Harbor History

The “Zvejniekciems” cultural center was designed by Latvian architect Marta Staņa. The cultural club of the same name has a large hall with seating for 700 spectators. “Melnalkšņi” is also part of Marta Staņa’s architectural heritage in Zvejniekciems. A stone selected by Kārlis Ulmanis as a testament to the construction of the harbor remains in the town.

Two historic openings mark distinct points in time: the Port of Skulte opened on October 7, 1939, and the “Zvejniekciems” cultural club opened on November 8, 1956. A municipal visitor information notice dated July 16, 2020, also mentions a boat launch site in Zvejniekciems.

Beach and Coastal Route

The rocky beach in Zvejniekciems is promoted as a location for photo shoots and as a stop for weddings. The first rocks along the coast appear at the beach before you reach the Port of Skulte. The North Pier of the Port of Skulte is listed as an attraction in Zvejniekciems.

The Baltic Coastal Hiking Route runs along the Vidzeme coast through Zvejniekciems. The first few kilometers to Zvejniekciems can be covered on the beach or along a path through the dune forest with old pines. The two options differ directly in the terrain: beach or forest path. Trail conditions may change seasonally; check them before your hike.

Events and Getting There

The Ostas svētki in Zvejniekciems are among Saulkrasti Municipality’s well-known events; specific dates vary from year to year. In 2026, the Ostas svētki invited people to celebrate the sea, the harbor, and coastal life together. The program included guided tours of the harbor area. If you want to plan your trip around an event, check the dates for the relevant edition.

Zvejniekciems is a stop for passenger services on the Riga–Skulte railway line. Check the timetable for your travel day if you plan to take the train. This lets you compare two specific aspects of the destination before searching for hotels.
