At the summit, the path passes a solitary bunker and then a group of bunkers and shelters from the Second World War. These historical traces provide a different point of interest from the hiking routes and village setting described above.

Kastoria in the Wider Travel Area

In the Kastoria travel area, Apóskepos is counted among the mountain villages associated with impressive views. Kastoria itself is built amphitheatrically on a strip of land surrounded by Lake Orestiada. Lake Kastoria is designated a natural monument of outstanding beauty and included in the European Natura 2000 environmental protection network. The mountain-village setting and the lake landscape are therefore distinct regional themes.

Kastoria’s architectural and museum history also offers specific points of interest. The Tsatsiapa Mansion in the Apozari district was built in 1754 and is the city’s only surviving three-story mansion with a rectangular floor plan and a pronounced horizontal axis. In the traditional Doltso district, the Folklore Museum is housed in the Nerantzi Aivazi Mansion; it presents the life of an aristocratic family from Kastoria. The Costume Museum in the Emmanuel Brothers Mansion displays authentic costumes from across Greece, including elaborately crafted costumes from Kastoria.
