Landscape and views on Koziakas
Elati lies on the slopes of Koziakas, a mountain characterized by its fir trees. A distinctive landmark is Kokkinos Vrachos: the rock is 60 meters high and lies at an elevation of 1,050 meters. From its summit, the view extends over Elati and the Pindos and Agrafa mountains. The rock's elevation, location and named viewpoints make it a clearly defined landscape feature to explore during your stay.
Trails, ascents and climbing
The two trails described offer different experiences. Trail 140 starts in the center of Elati and leads to Kosta. It is 2.8 kilometers long and rated easy. Trail 150 starts above the village, passes between the rocks of Thyra and offers a short ascent toward the high peaks of Koziakas. Trail 140 is defined by its length and difficulty rating, while Trail 150 describes an ascent toward the peaks. Trail conditions can change, so check local conditions before setting out.
Climbing is also one of the activities available at Kokkinos Vrachos. There are several routes on its steep face; the organized climbing area has seven routes of varying difficulty. Check local conditions before climbing.
The long-distance E4 trail offers another way to explore the surrounding area at the municipal level: it passes through the Municipality of Pyli and leads from Kalambaka toward the Koziakas refuge and Elati. Its described direction adds a route linking places within the municipality to the local trail destinations.
Chapels and historic sites
At the entrance to Elati is the grove of Prophet Elias, with a stone chapel of the same name. Above the village, the chapel of Agia Triada is also set in dense forest, at an elevation of 1,025 meters. The two sites differ in location: the grove and chapel are at the entrance to the village, while Agia Triada is above Elati in the forest.
Historical traces include the remains of the ancient castle near Paleokastro. They extend from the plateau below the Prophet Elias chapel to the settlement of Katofli. Elati was formerly known as Tyrna. This historic name adds a glimpse of the area's past naming history to today's orientation around the village.
