The route from Parikia to Agkairia descends to Sarakiniko and offers a view of Antiparos.

Location and Beach

Agia Irini on Paros is 4 km south of Parikia. The beach is 400 meters long and covered with fine sand. Agia Irini is considered unspoiled; the image of a beach without sun loungers and umbrellas is also part of its character. The beach is accessible by bus as far as the public road, as well as by private transport. If you plan to travel by bus, check the timetable before your trip.

Culture on Paros

On Paros, the focus extends beyond Sarakiniko to distinct cultural and natural attractions. In Parikia, Panagia Ekatontapiliani is located in the northeast of the town, near the port. It is one of Greece’s most important early Christian monuments. In the southern part of the church is the ancient baptistery, dating from the 4th century, which is considered the oldest and best-preserved baptistery in the Orthodox East. Ekatontapiliani is also home to the Byzantine Museum of Parikia, with rare icons, wood carvings, and other religious relics from the Byzantine era and the period of Ottoman rule.

Another historical attraction in Parikia is the Kastro. It preserves the ruins of a Venetian castle built from columns from ancient temples and other architectural elements. Ekatontapiliani represents early Christian and Byzantine heritage; at the Kastro, the reused columns reveal its connection with older buildings.

In Lefkes stands Agia Triada, a listed church building dating from 1835 and built from Parian marble. The church is designed as a three-aisled basilica, with a raised central nave and two bell towers. This adds a specific example of religious architecture in another place on Paros to the cultural sites in Parikia.

Nature and Events on Paros

The Paros Environmental and Cultural Park offers a variety of activities for visitors: its network of hiking trails is 7 kilometers long in total. The park also has a 700-seat amphitheater for concerts and performances, as well as organized and unspoiled beaches. Since 2009, the park has hosted the “Festival at the Park,” a summer program of cultural, sporting, and environmental events.

The Alyki Cultural Festival takes place every year in June, lasts three days, and includes events in Alyki on Paros. If you’re considering the festival when planning your trip, check the dates. In Aliki, the island’s most important wetland, hiking tours, nature walks, and cycling tours are organized for international visitors. Paros therefore offers both a recurring cultural event and nature-based activities at a named wetland.

Another natural attraction is the Valley of the Butterflies on Paros. It is a rare habitat for Jersey tiger moths, which can be seen there in large numbers on tree trunks. This describes a specific wildlife and landscape observation without tying it to a particular season.
