Ampelas combines a small coastal landscape with two coastal walking trails that lead to different destinations. When looking for a hotel in Ampelas, the local beaches, the bay sheltered from northerly winds, and the paths along the coast provide a specific framework. Paros offers additional cultural and natural attractions that are part of the wider destination.

Beaches and a sheltered bay

Ampelas has three small sandy beaches. At Aspros Gremos Beach, the water is shallow, sheltered from the wind, and crystal clear. A natural breakwater protects the bay from northerly winds. Together, these features give a clear picture of the coast: the three beaches describe the local selection, while the details about Aspros Gremos explain the characteristics of a particular beach.

If you are focusing mainly on the coast when planning your trip, you can take these differences into account without treating the beaches as one and the same.

Two trails with different destinations

One coastal walking trail leads from Ampelas to Santa Maria. Another runs from Ampelas via Molos to Marmara. The routes can therefore be distinguished by their named destinations: Santa Maria is the endpoint of one trail, while the other route includes Molos on the way to Marmara. When comparing the walking options, you can consider two distinct routes rather than just a general coastal walk.

The trails are a separate way to include the coast in your trip planning. Before setting out, you can check the current route and conditions. This is particularly useful for planning a specific day, without assuming any particular trail markings or conditions along the routes.

Fishing village and festival date

Ampelas was once a small fishing village known among the fishermen of the Cyclades; its waters were considered rich in catches. This historical character is part of the village’s past. It adds an earlier connection to fishing to the present-day picture of the bay, beaches, and coastal paths.

The festival in honor of Aghios Fanourios in Ampelas is dated August 27 and features dancing and music. If you would like to plan your trip around the festival, check the dates before making your plans. This makes the stated festival date a useful reference without implying a date for any particular travel year.

Putting routes and access in context

The beaches of Ampelas can be reached from Naousa by bus, as well as by private or rental transport. If you are traveling by bus, check the timetable for your travel day. The two coastal trails and access to the beaches provide different starting points for planning: one is about a walking route, the other about getting to the beaches.

The cultural and scenic attractions of Paros provide an additional, broader context and should be distinguished from the features of Ampelas.

Paros: Culture and nature in a broader context

In the wider destination of Paros, Panagia Ekatontapiliani is located in the northeastern part of Parikia, near the port. It is one of Greece’s most important early Christian monuments. The southern part of the church contains the ancient baptistery from the 4th century, considered the oldest and best-preserved baptistery in the Orthodox East. The church also houses the Byzantine Museum of Parikia, with rare icons, wood carvings, and other religious relics from the Byzantine era and the period of Ottoman rule.

Another historic building in Parikia is the Kastro. It preserves the ruins of a Venetian castle built from columns of ancient temples and other architectural elements. In Lefkes stands Agia Triada, a listed church building made of Parian marble and built in 1835. The complex includes a three-aisled basilica with a raised central nave and two bell towers.

Nature and culture also come together in the Municipality of Paros Environmental and Cultural Park. It has a seven-kilometer network of walking trails and a 700-seat amphitheater for concerts and performances. Since 2009, the municipality has held the “Festival at the Park” there, a summer program of cultural, sporting, and environmental events. These attractions add to the picture of Paros; Ampelas’s coastal features and walking trails remain separate from them.
