Agia Triada is located on the road between Corfu and Pelekas and is considered a residential area with no tourism development. Also consider whether your stay should focus primarily on this place or on other interests in the wider destination of Corfu.

Agia Triada and Pelekas

From Agia Triada, the route leads to the beaches of Kontogialos, Glyfada and Myrtiotissa. Pelekas is two kilometres from Agia Triada and is known for its sunset views. These are separate points of reference when choosing your location: the route leads to the three beaches mentioned, while Pelekas is known for its views. When considering a hotel, check whether its location suits your planned destinations.

Culture and scenery on Corfu

On Corfu, the Old Town offers a distinct cultural and historical focus. Its historic urban fabric is almost entirely preserved; its buildings date from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. Together with the two fortresses, the Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Museum of Asian Art in the Old Town houses more than 11,000 objects from China, Japan, India, the Himalayas and Central Asia. The townscape, fortresses and collection offer different perspectives on architectural history and art.

Another focus is archaeology. The Archaeological Museum of Corfu was built primarily to exhibit the Gorgon Medusa pediment from the great Temple of Artemis. The pediment dates to 585 BC and was excavated in 1911 near the Monastery of Aghioi Theodoroi. At the Kapodistrias Museum, the permanent exhibition explores the history of Corfu, Europe and Greece through the life of Greece’s first governor, using significant artefacts and documents. In the historic Old Town, Casa Parlante recreates the daily life of the island’s nobility in the 19th century with moving figures and replicated furnishings and interiors. The Achilleion summer palace was built in Gastouri in 1892 in the Pompeian style. Corfu thus brings together archaeological displays, history, everyday life and palace architecture as distinct themes.

Corfu also offers a range of options for hiking. In the municipal unit of Achilleion, ancient paths wind through the wooded mountains of Agii Deka, Stavros and Garouna and are suitable for hiking. The 180-kilometre Corfu Trail passes through several settlements; Benitses is one of its 13 overnight stops. The examples vary in scale, from paths in a named mountain area to a long route through several settlements. The villages of the municipal unit of Achilleion also host numerous festivals and folk celebrations, as well as cultural events organised by the municipality. If an event date is important to your trip, check that it coincides with your travel dates.

Mon Repos is set in a park covering 258 acres and containing numerous exotic, long-established plants. The lush garden on the hill near the Kapodistrias Museum offers views of Corfu’s landscape and across the island. Benitses Beach is a narrow, organised sandy beach next to the marina, with facilities for people with disabilities.
