Pigianos Kampos is an extensive coastal area approximately three kilometres long and two kilometres wide. These measurements refer to the area as a whole and give you an idea of its spatial extent.

Coastal Area and Landscape of Pigianos Kampos

The fertile area includes farmland for growing horticultural produce and cereals, as well as olive groves. This agricultural use adds another dimension to the coastal scenery: Pigianos Kampos is shaped not only by its beach, but also by its cultivated land.

There are sandy beaches along the coast. Pigianos Kampos Beach is expansive and sandy, with clear water. In places, distinctive stone breakwaters extend into the sea. The sandy beach and the stone breakwaters are two different features of this coastline: an extensive stretch of sand meets striking stone structures.

Beach and Activities

There are organised sections along the beach with parasols and sun loungers. You can swim in the rocky coves. Water sports centres operate in the beach area, offering visitors various activities. The specific options available may change. As beach services may also vary, check the latest information before your stay.

The 2026 Blue Flag list includes the entries Pigianos Kampos/Amira Luxury Resort and Pigianos Kampos/Grecotel LUXME White. This timeframe is useful if you are planning your trip for 2026.

Culture in the Rethymno Destination

Rethymno offers a distinctive historical centre. The Old Town of Rethymno is designated as a protected historic monument and a traditional settlement. Its urban layout dates back to the Venetian period and was later reshaped during Ottoman rule. The historic centre lies below the Venetian Fortezza fortress.

Since 1991, the Archaeological Museum of Rethymno has been housed in a pentagonal building in front of the main entrance to the Fortezza. Its exhibitions present the history of the prefecture from the Neolithic period to Roman times. The Historical and Folklore Museum focuses on a different subject: its permanent exhibition displays traditional crafts and folk art in five rooms. It is housed in a 17th-century Venetian mansion.

The Rethymno Renaissance Festival is also part of the region’s cultural offerings. Held every summer, it features music, theatre and dance performances, as well as art exhibitions. Arkadi Monastery offers another historical perspective: its two-aisled Church of Saint Constantine and the Transfiguration of the Saviour was built in 1587 and features elements of Renaissance architecture. Following the revolution of 1866–1869, the monastery became a symbol of freedom. The Rethymno Carnival is a traditional event featuring a carnival parade organised annually by volunteers.
