Discover Neo Chorio
Accommodation in Neo Chorio
If you would like to include sacred architecture and a hike in your travel plans, Neo Chorio offers two distinct themes: churches with their own histories and the Nió Chorió–Falásarna hiking trail. You can assess the route by its length, estimated walking time, difficulty level, and elevation reached. This lets you weigh cultural interests and a specific block of walking time separately.
Churches and building history
In Neo Chorio, the two-aisled Church of Saints Anthony and Eleftherios was built in the early 20th century on the site of a dilapidated chapel. “Two-aisled” means that a church building has two naves: it refers to two areas within one building, not two separate churches. The term therefore describes the church’s architectural layout, while the construction date and the site of the older chapel relate to its history over time.
For the chronology, the distinction is important: the early construction date belongs to the church, while the dilapidated chapel was its predecessor on the same site. The date therefore refers to the later church building, not the chapel. This keeps the historical sequence clear without treating both buildings as one structure.
The building also includes two small rooms, one of which is used as a rural medical practice. The two rooms should not be equated with the two naves: one description concerns individual rooms, while the other concerns the architectural layout of the church. Thus, the use of the rooms and the building’s design are separate aspects.
The Church of Saint Raphael is also located in Neo Chorio and was built by a devout family. This places a different historical emphasis on it than on the Church of Saints Anthony and Eleftherios: the latter is framed by its construction date and predecessor site, while the Raphael church is framed by the family who built it. This makes it possible to distinguish a building’s history at a particular site from a family’s history.
Hiking trail and time planning
The 2023 project report describes the Nió Chorió–Falásarna hiking trail as a 4.9 km route. It gives the estimated walking time as 1 hour and 30 minutes, rates the difficulty as low, and lists an elevation of 201 m. These figures answer different planning questions: the number of kilometres describes the route length, the time gives an estimated walking window, and the elevation adds information about the level the trail reaches. The difficulty rating is a separate assessment.
The 2023 project report identifies the walking time as an estimate. For your day’s itinerary, you can allow for this time as a walking block; the total duration of an outing also depends on your own breaks and the rest of your plans. This lets you plan the route and time required separately, rather than using the 4.9 km alone as a measure of duration. Check current trail conditions before setting out and allow some extra time for yourself. The low difficulty rating is a route classification; also assess your own needs.
