Ammoulliani
Accommodation in Ammoulliani
Ammoulliani combines island character, a ferry connection and a range of options for beach and boat trips. If you are looking for a hotel for your stay, consider what you want your trip to focus on: arriving on the island, spending time at Alykes Beach or exploring the nearby Drenia islets. These priorities raise different questions for planning your trip.
Getting there by ferry
A frequent daily ferry connects the main settlement of Ammoulliani with the small port of Trypití, outside Ouranoupoli. The crossing is two nautical miles long and takes less than 15 minutes. This duration refers to the ferry crossing itself, not the entire journey. When planning, the specific departure time also matters. As schedules can change, check the current timetable before your trip. This will help you include the connection in your arrival plans and distinguish the short crossing from the other parts of your journey.
Alykes and the island landscape
Ammoulliani is a small island with low hills and a few olive trees. Alykes Beach lies in the southern part of the island and offers views of Sithonía. Alykes therefore combines a specific beach location on Ammoulliani with views of Sithonía; the island’s landscape features are another aspect of your stay. If you want to plan time at the beach, you can consider Alykes as a separate focus alongside the ferry connection.
Beach facilities at Alykes
Alykes has three beach sections, all with umbrellas and sun loungers. Two sections have a beach bar; you can take part in water sports in the middle section. When choosing where to go on the beach, you can therefore distinguish between the facilities available at all three sections and the additional offerings. Beach services may vary seasonally. If a beach bar or water sports are important to your plans, check availability for your travel dates.
Drenia as a day-trip destination
The Drenia islets are located near Ammoulliani. They are separate islets, not part of the settlement of Ammoulliani. You can explore their beaches by renting a boat. This is different from spending time at Alykes: here, the focus is on the beach on Ammoulliani, while there it is on exploring separate islets and their beaches. The ferry and a rented boat are two different planning considerations: the ferry connects Ammoulliani with Trypití, while a rented boat lets you explore Drenia and its beaches. When organizing your activities, you can plan these as two separate outings rather than treating Drenia as another beach section on the island.
A local sweet
Ammoulliani’s local character also includes the sweet “amygdalota louλούdia” (“almond blossoms”), for which the island is known. It is shaped by hand. As a culinary point of interest, it adds another distinctive feature of the destination to the themes of landscape, ferry and beaches. If you do not want to base your travel decisions solely on activities on the water, this local name is another detail that characterizes Ammoulliani.
