Neeruti can be explored through two themes: its landscape and trails, and the history of its manor house. The 2024 general plan for Kadrina Municipality shows hiking and ski trails around the lakes and hills of the Neeruti Landscape Protection Area. For specific tour planning, it is worth considering routes by length, course and terrain. This helps you choose among the described trails based on the focus of your stay. The area is protected.

Hiking Trails and Landscape

The Kuresöödi–Pariisi–Kuresöödi hiking trail in the Neeruti Landscape Protection Area is 14 kilometres in total; shorter hikes are also possible. For planning, the stated length provides a concrete point of comparison: you can compare the full named trail with shorter hiking options and choose the scale of your trip accordingly.

The shorter loop of the Neeruti Trail goes around Lake Tagajärv and to Sadulamägi, where a historic hill fort is located. The longer route of the Neeruti Trail extends to Kiissaaugumägi. These routes can therefore be compared by their relative length and named destinations: the lake and hill fort mark the shorter loop, while Kiissaaugumägi marks the longer route. These features can help you choose a route based on a natural or historical focus.

The Neeruti nature trail begins and ends at the Eesjärve campsite; camping is also possible at the same site. The campsite is therefore a specific reference point for the nature trail and a named option for spending the night in a tent. If camping is part of your plans, you can take both into account at the same location.

The long eskers along the Neeruti Trail run from northwest to southeast and formed more than 10,000 years ago. Their steep slopes reach up to 45 degrees in places, making the trail physically demanding. This trail therefore offers both a distinctive geological formation and challenging terrain. Those interested in the landscape can learn about the eskers’ orientation and age, rather than focusing on the trail’s destinations; the slopes are also a practical consideration when planning your trip.

Neeruti Manor

The cultural heritage of the area includes Neeruti Manor, also known as Neeruti mõis. It is one of Estonia’s most outstanding examples of Art Nouveau. The manor house was first mentioned under the German name Buxhöwden in 1406. This historical reference and its Art Nouveau classification relate to different aspects of the building: one points to early mentions, the other to its architecture. The manor is privately owned and can generally only be viewed from a distance. Take this visiting condition into account when planning your trip.
