Kuremaa: Manor Park, Sandy Beach and Mill
Accommodation in Kuremaa
If you’re planning a stay in Kuremaa, you can choose from several distinct highlights: a historic parkland, the lakeside beach, and the mill and swimming pool. This can help you decide whether you’d rather spend your time enjoying the scenery and history, by the water, or taking part in cultural and recreational activities.
Manor Park, Manor House History and the Lake
Kuremaa Manor is surrounded by a diverse park that slopes asymmetrically down towards the lake. This creates a clear visual relationship between the park and the water. If you’re interested in the surroundings, the park’s layout and orientation are important features alongside its biodiversity: its asymmetrical slope towards the lake shapes the spatial impression of the grounds.
The Baroque park at Kuremaa Manor was laid out in the late 18th century under Moritz Wilhelm von Pistohlkors. An artificial island, surrounded by a canal, has been preserved in the park. The date of its creation and a surviving design feature together provide two specific points of reference for the history and layout of the grounds.
A 250-metre-long sandy beach lies on the northern shore of Lake Kuremaa. Kuremaa’s public beach has a bathing area marked by buoys and a bathing jetty. The stretch of beach, designated bathing area and jetty are three distinct points of reference for a visit to the lake. Windsurf boards, SUP boards, boats and fishing rods are available to rent at the beach. The activities on offer include a range of ways to enjoy the water and its surroundings, from boards and boats to fishing. Rentals may be seasonal, and beach facilities may also be seasonal. If you’re planning a specific activity or rental, check availability in advance.
Mill, Manor and Views
The third and fourth floors of Kuremaa Mill offer different highlights. The third floor has an exhibition about the Dutch-type windmills found in Estonia. On the fourth floor, viewing windows offer views of the Vooremaa landscape. This lets you choose between a clearly defined exhibition topic and a view of the landscape; each is on a different floor. If you’d like to visit the mill, check the current opening times in advance.
Kuremaa Manor also has a museum room. This gives you two named cultural venues of different scope: an exhibition on a specific topic in the mill and a museum room in the manor.
Trails and Swimming Pool
The Kuremaa health trails start at a point 2 km from Kuremaa, in the direction of Laiuse. A sign reading “Kuremaa Terviserajad” marks the spot. Both the distance and the sign are useful for finding your way: one gives the location of the starting point, while the other identifies it on site.
As another swimming option, Kuremaa swimming pool has a 25-metre pool with four lanes and a small pool. The pool layout differs clearly from the beach: instead of the length of the beach, bathing area and rental options, the focus here is on pool dimensions, the number of lanes and the additional small pool. This lets you choose based on the type of swimming environment you prefer—a lake with a beach and seasonal options, or a swimming pool with a clearly specified layout.
