Valašské Příkazy: Hiking Trails, Cycling and Easter Traditions
Accommodation in Valašské Příkazy
In Valašské Příkazy, a distinctive valley location, marked hiking trails, cycling opportunities and local customs come together. To help you plan your trip, consider different points of reference: the routes, the landscape in the village and its wider surroundings, and the culture surrounding Easter.
A landscape between two mountain ranges
Valašské Příkazy lies in a valley between the Vizovické vrchy and the White Carpathians. The Dúbravka stream flows through the village; it forms the notional boundary between the two mountain ranges. The stream and valley are thus closely connected to the village’s position between these two landscapes.
Hiking trails and the Bevlava Cycle Route
A marked hiking trail leads from Valašské Příkazy into the White Carpathians. An eastern route passes through Študlov to the 791-metre-high summit of Požár, where hiking trails intersect. The route descriptions offer different points of reference: one focuses on the destination region, while the other describes the route through a named village to a summit where trails intersect.
Cycling is also possible. The section of the Bevlava Cycle Route from Ústí u Vsetína ends in Valašské Příkazy. The Bevlava section that continues from there is marked, runs on asphalt and has a gentle gradient. The activities therefore have different features to consider: the hiking trails are described by their destinations and routes, while the cycle route is also described by its surface and gradient.
A road connection and a railway line between Vsetín and Valašské Klobouky also pass through Valašské Příkazy. These two connections complement the hiking and cycling routes with road and rail links.
Nature in the surrounding area
In the wider area, the Ploština Nature Reserve lies on the southern slope of Ploština. It is home to a natural fir-beech forest and protected plants in the undergrowth. North of Valašské Příkazy are the Lačnovské rybníky ponds, where fishing is possible; local access conditions may vary. The two places appeal to different interests: Ploština for its forest and protected plants, and the ponds for the opportunity to fish.
Easter customs and local culture
The “ščukotání” tradition is observed around Easter in Valašské Příkazy. School-age boys walk through the village with “ščukotávky” and “tragači.” During the “flight of the bells to Rome,” they take the place of the daily bell ringing.
Fire brigade balls are another cultural tradition: the local volunteer fire brigade association has carried on this custom, and the event is considered a popular cultural occasion in the area. The two traditions have different associations. “Ščukotání” is connected with Easter, while the fire brigade balls stem from the local association’s tradition.
