For Trebenice, the municipality primarily recommends walks and cycling trips through the landscape along the right bank of the Dalešická Reservoir. The landscape’s landmarks include elevated viewpoints overlooking the reservoir. Botanically interesting places and the Chapel of Sts Cyril and Methodius also help define the character of the area.

Hiking, Cycling and the Dalešická Reservoir

Maintained paths and cycling routes run along the entire right bank. Elevated viewpoints offer views over the reservoir. When planning, it is worth distinguishing the network of paths along the bank from the specific cycling route: the 51-kilometre “Around the Dalešice Reservoir” route passes through Trebenice, Plešice and Chroustov. From Trebenice, it continues via Plešice and Chroustov along road III/35122 to Stropešín. On the route, an unmarked path leads to Trebenice from the Žleb signpost. As route information may change, check the route before setting out.

Fishing is another activity associated with the Dalešická Reservoir: it is designated as the JIHLAVA 7-8 fishing area. If fishing is part of your trip, check the applicable fishing regulations separately in advance.

Botanical Highlights

A small forest clearing near the village is home to three endangered plant species: the early snowdrop (sněženka předjarní), as well as the critically endangered Carpathian saffron (šafrán karpatský) and two-leaved squill (ladoňka dvoulistá). There are also botanically interesting places with rare plants in the cadastral area of Trebenice. These include the purple cyclamen (brambořík nachový), Turk’s cap lily (lilie zlatohlávek) and bulbous saxifrage (lomikámen cibulkatý). The natural attractions therefore extend beyond views of the reservoir to include the area’s distinctive plant life.

The Chapel and Recurring Events

The small Baroque-Classical Chapel of Sts Cyril and Methodius dates from the 18th century. Inside are a painting with Cyril and Methodius themes and a sculptural group of Saints Cyril and Methodius. The chapel also has a space with a well set into the ground.

The annual Cyril and Methodius pilgrimage (Cyrilometodějská pouť) takes place on 5 July. It is preceded by a Mass in the village square by the chapel; the festivities also include “zaváděním po vsi.” In January, the local hunting association (Myslivecké sdružení) holds its traditional hunters’ ball (Myslivecký ples). The Women’s Association (Svaz žen) holds Children’s Day (Dětský den) on the Saturday closest to 1 June. The programme includes children’s competitions and spit-roasted piglet. If you want to plan your trip around one of these events, check the date in advance.

Getting Your Bearings in Trebenice

Trebenice lies southeast of Třebíč on the Třebíč–Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant route, about 11 kilometres from Třebíč. The village’s history is also linked to Holoubek Castle: Trebenice historically belonged to it. After the castle fell into disrepair after 1440, the village became part of the Valeč estate.
