Marked hiking trails through the Oslava and Chvojnice valleys, cycling routes, and places of cultural and historical interest give Breznik a variety of attractions. If you are looking for accommodation for a stay in the region, you can base your choice on your planned interests: hiking, cycling, scenery, or local history. You can plan your journey around the bus connection and the railway station, about three kilometers away.

Hiking and scenery

Several marked hiking trails run through the valleys of the Chvojnice and Oslava rivers within Breznik’s cadastral area. At the same time, the cadastral area is part of the Náměšťsko Landscape Conservation Area. Its landscape reflects a harmonious blend of unspoiled nature and planned human design. Cycling routes have also been marked in Breznik since 2003, offering hiking and cycling as distinct options.

Near Breznik, a red hiking trail follows the Oslava from Náměšť nad Oslavou to Ketkovice. The surrounding area has several elevated spots offering panoramic views of the landscape.

Church and local history

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is estimated to date from the end of the 12th century and the Romanesque period. The church also has three historically valuable bells; the oldest was hung in 1491. Thus, its estimated early construction history stands alongside a precisely dated detail of its furnishings.

Southwest of Breznik, the surviving remains of Lamberk Castle stand on a steep, elongated rocky promontory on the left bank of the Oslava. The castle fell into ruin before 1459. Its position on the riverbank and rocky promontory offers a different historical connection to the area than the church in the village.

Traditions and local culture

Among Breznik’s long-standing traditional cultural and social events are the Hody folk festivals. The Breznik wedding koláče also represent a longstanding local tradition: their distinctive recipe and method of preparation are passed down from generation to generation. Hody reflect community customs, while the koláče represent a culinary practice handed down over time.

The memorial to the fallen was ceremonially unveiled on August 3, 1924. This precisely dated event adds a 20th-century connection to the medieval associations of the church and castle.
