Pozďatín brings together a landscape shaped by ponds, protected habitats and chapels with histories of their own. The railway station and two different route descriptions also help you plan your trip. When deciding what to see, consider whether you are especially interested in nature, local history or a combination of both. The destinations and routes below each offer a different focus, so you do not have to fit everything into a single outing.

Ponds and protected nature

Pozďatín lies on a granite island, and ponds are closely woven into the landscape around the village. One with a long history is Vrbinec Pond, which was already mentioned in historical sources in 1504. The local landscape therefore brings together a historical connection reaching back to the early modern period and nature-related themes of today.

The Maršovec a Čepička protected area extends across the cadastral areas of Pozďatín and Pyšel. It comprises two pond habitats as well as adjacent wetlands and waterlogged alder woods. These habitats form part of a site of great importance for the fire-bellied toad (Bombina bombina), where the species has an exceptionally large population. If you are interested in the connection between ponds, wetlands and species conservation, this is a specific nature-focused destination in the area.

Chapels and local history

The centrally located Chapel of the Virgin Mary has a rectangular design. Its distinctive little tower with an onion dome and stucco-decorated façade give the building a striking architectural appearance. The chapel also houses a bell made by Georg Jan Schleichter in 1771. Its floor plan, façade decoration and bell offer different points of interest if, during your stay, you are curious not only about the landscape but also about the area's architecture and local history.

Another chapel stands on the edge of Pozďatín, next to the former school building: the 18th-century chapel dedicated to Saint John of Nepomuk. It is distinct from the centrally located Chapel of the Virgin Mary. Together, the two buildings point to different locations in the village and different details to look out for as you explore Pozďatín's religious architecture.

Railway station and planning your routes

Pozďatín railway station lies on railway line 257 between Křižanov and Studenec and is integrated into the Vysočina Region's public transport system. A hiking route called “Pozďatínské rybníky” leads from Studenec railway station to Pozďatín along a green-marked trail. Check the trail markings again before setting out so you can plan with up-to-date information.

For cycling, there is the “Za krajinou rybníků” route: it is 38.4 kilometres long, described as easy, and passes ponds in the forests south of Pozďatín. The two routes therefore differ mainly in their described format: one leads from Studenec railway station to Pozďatín, while the other is a longer cycling route with ponds as its landscape theme. Check the route details before setting off. This will help you choose an activity that suits your stay based on the specific route information provided.

If you are looking for a hotel for your stay, these nature and cultural themes can help you decide what interests you most about your trip. Consider whether you would like to focus on the protected area, the pond landscape, the chapels or one of the routes.
