Sec: Reservoir, churches and trails
Accommodation in Sec
The Seč Reservoir, the churches and the named trails give your stay in Sec a range of different focal points.
Reservoir and protected landscape
The Seč Reservoir was built between 1924 and 1935. It lies on the Chrudimka River in the Železné hory Protected Landscape Area. Both the reservoir’s history and its location in a protected landscape shape the nature theme around Sec.
The Oheb Nature Reserve lies near Seč. It protects natural scree forests, relict pine forests and acid beech forests. Its rocky sites serve as nesting grounds for the eagle owl. Those interested in protected areas will find here not only different types of forest, but also a specific connection to wildlife: the eagle owl and its nesting grounds are part of the reserve’s description.
Castle ruins and churches
The ruins of Oheb Castle feature several different structural remains: a partly filled-in moat, remnants of the fortification walls, a tower with remains of the entrance gate, and two gun bastions. These details give the site its own character and distinguish it from the churches in Seč.
The Church of St Lawrence stands in Seč’s marketplace. It was built between 1610 and 1620 and dates from the Late Renaissance. Large parts of its interior have been preserved in their original state. Both the construction period and the preserved interior are therefore relevant to understanding its architectural history.
The Church of St Stephen stands in Seč’s cemetery. The cemetery wall offers a view of the Železné hory landscape. While St Lawrence, with its construction period and preserved interior, points to architectural history, St Stephen combines a visit to the church with views of the landscape.
Cycling routes and educational trails
Cycle Route 4114 leads from Seč towards Ústupky and forms part of a circuit. The circuit passes through Ústupky, Přemilov, Klokočov, Březinky, Dolní Ves and Horní Ves before returning to Seč. For planning, both the direction and the route through the named places are important. Check the route number and surface conditions before setting out.
The Krajem Chrudimky educational trail runs along the Chrudimka River and is 82 kilometres long in total, including the access path from Čachnov railway station. There are 31 information stops along the route, including the “Seč – přehrada” stop. The total length therefore includes the access path, a useful distinction when comparing route distances.
The Krajem Železných hor educational trail leads from Seč via Třemošnice to Ronov nad Doubravou and is 22 kilometres long. It is suitable for walkers and cyclists and has 15 information stops. Compared with the Krajem Chrudimky educational trail, the stated route is shorter; the two trails differ in their route, length and number of information stops. Check the route and conditions of this trail locally.
Water skiing at the reservoir
Water skiing is available at the Seč Reservoir. If you plan this activity, check the current operator and availability before your visit. This keeps your plans focused on the activity itself without assuming fixed operating details.
