Rožná: Hradisko, St. Havel’s Church and Outdoor Pool
Accommodation in Rožná
Rožná can be explored through several distinct themes: its wooded setting, the mineralogically interesting Hradisko, St. Havel’s Church and the outdoor pool. For planning your trip, it helps to distinguish between these highlights: Hradisko connects geology with the landscape, the church tells of different eras, and the outdoor pool offers a practical place to swim.
Landscape and Hradisko
Rožná lies at an elevation of 461 metres in a hollow that is somewhat open to the northwest and almost entirely surrounded by forests. About 500 metres northeast of the village, there is a small quarry on Hradisko. Hradisko is also a site where rare minerals have been found: in 1785, engineer Karel Ručínský discovered lepidolite and rubellite, a pink tourmaline, there. Those interested in geology will find a tangible link between the place and its mineralogical history.
A route to the summit leads from the Nedvědička valley through the Sušírna valley and then over the spoil heaps. Another route follows a forest track from the road to Zlatkov; it begins about 200 metres below the petrol station. Check local conditions before visiting. From Hradisko, you can see the former uranium deposit near Dolní Rožínka, particularly the spoil heaps. The visible industrial landscape may change. Mineralogy excursions, usually organised by schools from Brno, also visit Hradisko.
Church and local history
An expert assessment from 1993 dates St. Havel’s Church to the second half of the 13th century. An iron footbridge over the road to Dolní Rožínka connects the church with the rectory. The church also contains a marble baptismal font dating from 1684. The dates of the church and the font point to different historical reference points: one concerns the dating of the building, the other a specific furnishing.
Another historical date is 16 June 1895, when the Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes was consecrated. Together with St. Havel’s Church, it offers a second way to explore local history. The dates mentioned thus range from the Middle Ages, through a furnishing from the 17th century, to the chapel’s consecration in the 19th century. Visitors focusing mainly on culture can use these different periods as a guide during their stay.
Swimming, cycling and events
Koupaliště Rožná outdoor pool is located in the village’s sports complex. Its outdoor pool measures 30 by 10 metres and is intended for swimming. For cyclists, Route 5130 is a specific point of reference: it runs from Nové Město na Moravě to Pernštejn and passes through Rožná at kilometre 21.00. The Havelské hody festival is celebrated every two years with a maypole; check the specific dates before your trip.
These themes offer different points of focus for a stay: at Hradisko, the emphasis is on minerals, the landscape and the routes described; the outdoor pool, with its clearly stated dimensions, is an obvious swimming option. The church and chapel provide historical points of interest, while Route 5130 and Havelské hody offer connections to cycling and a recurring festival, respectively. When looking for a hotel in Rožná, you can consider which of these aspects matters most to your trip, without confusing the different attractions and places.
