Pavlov – Views, Wetland and Local History
Accommodation in Pavlov
If you are looking for a hotel in Pavlov, the focus of your stay can help determine your choice of destination. Vostrážka lies along the route from Pavlov to Bezděkov; Hliniště is on the northeastern edge of the municipality, and the Church of St. Vitus is in Pavlov. A cycle route also passes through the village. Views, nature, church architecture and cycling offer different ways to shape your travel plans.
Vostrážka and views of the landscape
Vostrážka is a hill along the route from Pavlov to Bezděkov. It offers views of the surrounding landscape; in good visibility, you may also be able to see Slavonice. The view of the town therefore explicitly depends on visibility conditions. If you would like to include a landscape viewpoint in your plans, Vostrážka is the named spot for this; Slavonice is an additional option in good visibility.
Hliniště: wetland and former clay extraction
The scientifically significant Hliniště wetland lies on the northeastern edge of the municipality of Pavlov near Stonařov. It contains dozens of small pools formed by earlier clay extraction. The clay was used to make so-called Vepřovice, or unfired bricks. The pools are therefore part of today’s landscape and also point to the former use of clay to produce building materials.
Part of Hliniště is accessible via unpaved paths. These paths are maintained only as part of routine summer mowing. Entry is permitted at your own risk and is otherwise unrestricted. Take the unpaved paths and their seasonal maintenance into account when planning your visit; check the condition of the paths before you go.
The Church of St. Vitus and its history
The Church of St. Vitus in Pavlov is documented from 1365 and was probably originally Gothic. Its present appearance dates from a Baroque renovation carried out between 1772 and 1775. The church also has a death bell dating from 1799. These dates refer to different points in its history: 1365 marks its first documented mention, 1772 to 1775 the renovation, and 1799 the bell. The Gothic origin remains a qualified assessment.
Cycling through Pavlov
A cycle route passes through Pavlov. Cycling is therefore a distinct aspect of travel planning alongside the village’s natural and cultural attractions. If you are organising your trip around possible interests, you can consider the cycle route as a specific option for cycling.
Directions to the source of the Moravská Dyje
The source of the Moravská Dyje is in the Brtnická vrchovina landscape area near Jihlava, not far from the municipality of Stajiště. It can be reached via a green-marked hiking trail. Cyclists turn off cycle route 5091 and reach the source after 200 metres. The directions differ by mode of transport: on foot, follow the green-marked trail to the source; by bike, follow route 5091 and take the turnoff. Check the markings and trail conditions on site before setting off.
A green-marked hiking trail passes the Pouště tourist signpost. In one direction it leads to the source of the Moravská Dyje; in the other, it passes the Na Pouštích ponds and continues into the Velký Špičák area. The signpost therefore offers a choice of two different directions: the source or the route past the ponds into the Velký Špičák area.
