Discover Olší: Churches, Monuments and Routes
Accommodation in Olší
For travelers who consider historic buildings and designated routes when choosing a destination, Olší offers specific points of interest. These include St. George’s Church, chapels and memorial sites in several named places, as well as two tourist routes with different itineraries. The town’s history spans from a church structure dating to the 15th century to memorial plaques that were unveiled again in 1968.
Churches and Memorial Sites
St. George’s Church in Olší is a state-protected cultural monument. Its core dates to the 15th century; with its prism-shaped tower, it has retained a fortress-like character. Its construction period and appearance offer two points of reference for viewing the building: the core points to its earlier history, while the tower is part of its distinctive form.
In the settlement of Rakové stands a marble cross dating from 1870. An annual pilgrimage is also held there at the Chapel of St. Anne. The cross and the pilgrimage mark different aspects of the local religious heritage: one as a lasting historical feature, the other as an event that recurs each year. No specific date for the pilgrimage is given.
Klokočí also preserves several memorial sites. The chapel there replaced a wooden bell tower in 1894. In a park next to the chapel stands a monument to four fallen soldiers of the First World War. Memorial plaques to T. G. Masaryk and E. Beneš also commemorate them: they were hidden during the war and unveiled again in 1968. The chapel, monument and plaques thus connect architectural history with the commemoration of people and fallen soldiers, although the memorials do not all date from the same period.
A Historic Inn in Litava
Litava is home to a former Baroque inn that is protected as a cultural monument. It has preserved its original layout from 1734 and acquired its present form in 1929. These details relate to different architectural features: the layout points to an earlier period, while the present form reflects a later change. The history of the former inn therefore cannot be reduced to a single year of construction.
For geographical orientation: Road II/385 runs through the Litava district of the municipality of Olší. The road connection is thus specifically identified for Litava.
Designated Routes and Landscape
Olší lies on the edge of the Svratecká hornatina Nature Park. A tourist route designated in the Pernštejn microregion runs from Doubravník via Bozinka, Maňová, Litava, Olší and Sejřek, and back to Doubravník. Olší is therefore a named section of this longer route; both its starting point and endpoint are in Doubravník.
A second tourist loop, also designated in the Pernštejn microregion, starts and ends in Olší. Its route passes through Košíkov, follows the Loučka, and continues via Šafránkův Mlýn, Trenckova rokle, Drahonín, Schacht Olší, Hájenka, Bor and Sejřek before returning to Olší. The two routes therefore differ in their itineraries: one connects Olší with other named places on the way to and from Doubravník, while the other forms a loop starting and ending in Olší. Check route conditions before setting out.
How to Assess Olší as a Destination
When deciding whether Olší suits your travel interests, two clear themes stand side by side: cultural history, with churches, a historic building and memorial sites, and the designated tourist routes. The historical details span several periods, from the inn’s layout dating to 1734 through the marble cross of 1870 to the re-unveiling of the memorial plaques in 1968.
