Valley, Swimming, and Storks
Dvořákův rybník is near Nová Ves u Světlé, beyond the football pitch. Ředkovský rybník in the surrounding area is used for swimming. A cast-iron cross at the same pond commemorates the drowning of the miller Václav Nečil and a boy. Ředkovský rybník thus combines a swimming spot with a specific memorial.
Since 1959, storks have returned every spring to the distillery chimney in Nová Ves u Světlé. From spring until the end of summer, the chimney serves as their habitat, where they regularly raise their young. The comparison highlights two connections with nature: the valley landscape shaped by the river and stream, on the one hand, and the annual return of the storks, on the other.
History and Memorials
The earliest documented mentions of Nová Ves u Světlé date from the 1370s and are connected with the history of Lipnice Castle. The local names of the chapels also distinguish them: the lower chapel is known locally as Špálova Chapel, and the upper one as Dubnova Chapel. Another local tradition is Bramboriáda. In 2021, Nová Ves u Světlé held the 11th edition of its traditional competition for the best potato pancake.
