Dušejov combines architectural history, local memorials and events with publicly accessible sports facilities. You can choose different focuses for your stay: the church and memorial sites offer insights into local history, the sculptures have their own symbolic meanings, and events and sports complement these cultural themes with specific activities.

Architectural History and Memorial Sites

The Church of St. Bartholomew is a protected cultural monument. The Baroque building was constructed from 1780 to 1787 based on a design by Prague architect Jan Josef Pachner. With its construction dates, style and architect’s name, the church is a clearly defined point of reference for Dušejov’s architectural history.

The Křížový kámen offers a different perspective on local heritage. The memorial stone lies in the small wood called “Dubovo boroví,” between Road 602 from Jihlava and the agricultural cooperative. The granite stone has a smoothed face into which three irregular crosses are engraved. These may symbolically represent the extinction of the Dub family. Unlike the church’s architectural history, the stone focuses on its material, engraved design and a possible family history.

The former site of Zemanův mlýn can only be located approximately. A millstone there recalls the former mill; the site is freely accessible.

Sculptures in the Village Square

Two sculptures with different associations stand in the village square. The statue of the Night Watchman was created in 2025 as a striking new feature of the square. It symbolically recalls the village’s former night watchman and older local rhythms of life. The Spirit of the Tree preserves the memory of the ash tree from whose wood the sculpture was made. As the village square’s second patron, it is intended to show passers-by the way. The Night Watchman refers to a former village role; the Spirit of the Tree brings together material, memory and symbolic guidance.

Events and Sports

The traditional Pálení čarodějnic (Witches’ Burning) takes place at the Dušejov football pitch. Before the bonfire is lit, the programme includes a lantern procession with a children’s activity. The traditional spring outing starts at the sakura tree in front of the municipal office. The procession and bonfire shape the programme of the Pálení; for the spring outing, the starting point in front of the municipal office is the clear point of reference. If you are planning your stay around one of these occasions, check the event date in advance.

The multi-purpose sports court in Dušejov is open to the public and free to use. You can play tennis, volleyball, nohejbal, basketball, streetball and badminton there.
