Local themes in Dolní Lažany range from traditional customs to tournaments, tastings, and seasonal connections with nature. This allows you to assess the destination through specific events and traditions. When planning, it is important to distinguish recurring customs from one-off programs. If you want to tie your trip to a particular festival or tournament, check its date before booking a hotel.

Traditions Throughout the Year

The traditional Masopust in Dolní Lažany includes a masked procession through the village. A municipal account from 2016 describes refreshments along the route: households offered spirits, carnival doughnuts, and other food. The procession ended at the community hall with refreshments and brass-band music. The event thus combines a route through the village with food and a musical finale.

Velikonoční hrkání is a recurring Easter custom: local men use rattles instead of church bells. Participants receive a reward on Holy Saturday. Unlike Masopust, this custom revolves around Easter and the rattles, while the masked procession through the village is the main feature of Masopust.

Tournaments and Event Formats

Mácův memoriál is regularly held as a tournament for amateur teams of three in nohejbal at the sports ground in Dolní Lažany; its 19th edition took place in 2021. The traditional Rybářské závody at the Zámeček pond in Dolní Lažany was held as a 24-hour fishing competition. The formats differ considerably: Mácův memoriál focuses on team size and nohejbal, while Rybářské závody focuses on the duration of the fishing competition.

A 2021 summer program at the Lažanský Amphitheatre by the pond included a children’s relay competition and a nighttime adventure trail. Both activities were part of the program, but had different focuses: a competition on the one hand, and a nighttime trail on the other.

Tastings and Local Cuisine

Lažanský košt has a different focus. Tastings featured slivovitz and other spirits, goulash, spreads, and pastries. People from outside Dolní Lažany could also take part. By March 19, 2016, the event had reached its fifth edition. Unlike Masopust, where households offered food along the procession route, this event centered on tastings.

Hubertova jízda and the Surrounding Area

A traditional Hubertova jízda was held in Dolní Lažany for horse lovers. The ride followed paths and meadows in the surrounding area. Refreshments served in a meadow at the edge of the forest included grilled sausages and mushroom soup.

The forests of Babický hřbet in the Rokytnická pahorkatina lie near Dolní Lažany. Edible mushrooms grow there in autumn. This seasonal connection with nature adds an autumnal aspect to the local customs and events.
