Dlouhé lies on a plateau at an elevation of 555 m, 9 km southeast of Nové Město na Moravě. Wooded hills surround the village. Two aspects are particularly easy to explore as you plan your trip: local memorial and architectural history, and the landscape of the plateau and wooded hills. The historical themes range from a memorial and a Protestant cemetery to crosses, a former ironworks, and a manor forest lodge.

Memorial Sites and Crosses

The present-day war memorial was erected in 1924 and commemorates those who died in both world wars. The Protestant cemetery in Dlouhé was established in 1888: Protestant residents from Dlouhé and Račice laid it out and built it. The first person buried there was the local resident Jan Chalupa. The memorial and cemetery thus represent different historical connections: remembrance of those who died in both world wars and the history of Protestant residents from the two named places.

The crosses also differ in their locations and the circumstances in which they were created. Kříž pod Kopci stands on the road to Radešínská Svratka and dates to 1903. Kříž Omladiny was erected in 1929 by the village youth on the road to Bobrová. Kříž posledního rozloučení stands in the centre of Dlouhé and dates to 1879. Its traditional significance is reflected in a specific practice: residents stop there before setting out for a funeral service and say their goodbyes.

Architectural History and Historical Traces

In 1874, it was decided to build a bell tower with a small chapel in Dlouhé. Another detail of cultural history is the donation of an image of Saint Florian by Rosa Milius-Malovetz, who ran a girls' school in Brno. These two facts offer insight into different aspects of local history: a building decision and a named benefactor.

Ježkov (Frankfurt) is a settlement belonging to Dlouhé and the remains of a former ironworks. Zátoky is a manor forest lodge built in 1876. These two places complement the memorial and religious sites with connections to a former ironworks and a forest lodge. Those interested in local history can therefore look beyond the memorial sites: the listed themes also include traces of former industry and buildings.

Plateau and Cycling Route

The elevation and surroundings provide a clear sense of the landscape: Dlouhé is situated on a plateau, with wooded hills all around. Its location, 9 km southeast of Nové Město na Moravě, places it in the region. For cyclists, the “Bobrová kolem kopce Kalvárie” circular route follows cycle route 5256 towards Dlouhé.

Near Dlouhé, the circular route turns towards Bobrová. It then follows a 2.4 km descent with panoramic views of the surrounding hills. The 9 km describes Dlouhé's location relative to Nové Město na Moravě, while the 2.4 km refers to the descent on the circular route. This helps distinguish the location of the village from the route section. Local conditions may affect the route, so check its course before setting out.
